Gold Life (1)

In the middle of the night, a carriage rattled as it moved. Beth’s butt hurt.

Three hours have passed since she applied for a long vacation and left for Baron Hyde, and it was two hours since she thought that a carriage was a really uncomfortable and nonsense means of transportation.

When she was moved from the village where she lived originally to Count Gordon, she was so exhausted that she had no time to feel uncomfortable. When she got on the carriage with Claire, she didn’t travel far away, and because it was a paved road, the journey was relatively comfortable.

Okay…….

And the carriage was for the nobility, so it usually had a soft chair but not now.  The eight-person carriage that headed for Baron Hyde was narrow and uncomfortable.

I’m sure that’s understandable…

Beth held a big bag in her arms and looked beside her. It was problematic that her hips hurt, the carriage shook violently, and in the narrow space there were many people, but because of the person next to her, it didn’t feel like a big problem.

“Kedrick, why are you here?”

“Hmm? I happened to have something to see with Baron Hyde.”

“You don’t want to watch the lady?”

“I asked the lady directly and got permission. As a bonus, I asked someone for a seat. It’s obvious as an employee.”

Kedrick looked at Beth with an innocent smile. Beth looked at him with the most absurd expression in the world and decided to stop talking.

When she talked to him, her mind was thrown to a strange place, and the words jumbled up elsewhere. He wasn’t Beth’s favorite conversation partner, as she had a hard time figuring out his thoughts.

In fact, Beth’s preferred conversation partner just didn’t exist.

“You know, Beth.”

Kedric spoke to Beth quietly while she had her mouth tight shut. Beth finally opened her mouth to Kedrick’s attitude, as if he was waiting for an answer with her mouth shut like a conch.

“.… what.”

“Why won’t Beth fall in love?”

 “…..”

And he asked a really heavy question. Beth looked at him, as she broke the promise she made a few minutes ago that she would not look at him. When he saw her expression, he smiled lightly,”That look is absurd.”

“It’s ridiculous.”

“Yes, you say so from your expression.”

Kedrick felt that whatever he said, wouldn’t work on Beth. She didn’t understand why he hovered around her, so she couldn’t understand the intention of that question now.

Does she really love him?

No way. She has received many unwanted favors, in the past life and in the present life.

Therefore, the expression when Kedrick looked at her was quite different from the men she encountered before. “Why are you curious about that?”

“Well, I want to be close with Beth.”

“Why?”

“Well….”

To Beth’s question, Kedrick asked himself why as he stroked his chin. “Because I want to know about Beth?”

“The answer is the question and the question sounds like the answer.”

As Beth’s eyebrows twitched, Kedric laughed and looked around at the people around him. Because it was late at night, everyone was in a deep sleep.

“How about this then?”

“What? “

“If Beth answers my question, I’ll answer Beth’s question.”

“I don’t need it.”

“…Lady Claire will love it if we get close to each other.”

“…..”

Beth’s body fluttered as he mentioned Claire. Kedrick laughed as he did not miss that reaction, “I told her that I am going to the same place as Beth today, and the young lady was very happy.”

Beth replied with a frown. “You’re successful this time, but I think it will be impossible to sell the lady again next time.”

“Haha, I didn’t make that up.”

Beth leaned her chin against the carriage and stretched her legs in the space left. As she took her luggage close, Kedrick gently took it and put it on his lap instead.

Beth stared at what he was doing, but Kedric turned his head as if to ask her to answer his question.

“I had my first love.”

“Okay.”

Kedrick blinked and waited for the next words, “His appearance was fine. He sold me.”

“…..”

“I didn’t want to be sold to an old man, so I asked him to run away with me, he said yes, then he took me away. In return, he got a good job at the town.”

Kedrick couldn’t answer that for a long time.

“I’m sure my life will eventually be passed on at the price of a few silver a day. No, I’m going to get gold. I’d rather be better off than that.”

In a long silence, Beth slowly closed and opened her eyes, as she looked at the big, round moon in the night sky over the carriage. It was a moment of silence, but it felt like an eternity.

Yeah, how could I have forgotten this? How could she have forgotten this fact that she had deep dreams of? It’s the reason why she didn’t believe in love and had a huge scar on her.

“Then, were you caught and you ran away alone?”

“… there is no need to answer that.”

Kedrick didn’t answer, as he was lost in thought. Beth, for some reason, looked at him, who was just quiet, and opened her mouth, “Can I ask a question too?”

“Sure.”

Beth wanted to believe that Kedric would also tell her the truth, since she gave him a real answer this time.  She wanted to answer somebody’s question and spit out the pain that only she can remember. Kedrick, who had a moderate intimacy, was the right match.

“Kedrick.”

“Yeah.”

“Why do you keep appearing around me?”

“Because I am the lady’s escort and you are the lady’s maid.”

“Do not try to get away with it, I’m asking about what happened before.”

He said it was a coincidence, but Beth was convinced it was not a coincidence. At first, she thought it was a coincidence, but looking at his relaxed expressions, it wasn’t a coincidence.

Kedrick said, deep in thought, “There was someone I really had to find.”

“Yes.”

“Looking at the color of your hair, I thought you were the person at first.”

“I see.”

“But now that I think about it, it’s not.”

“Then did you think I was that person until now?”

To Beth’s other question, Kedrick responded with a bitter smile, “No, you’re completely different from the person. Beth can’t be that person.”

Who is the person you are looking for? Beth said nothing and just looked at Kedrick, who looked bitterly differently than usual.

It was strange to pay attention to others, and she hated it, and if she wanted to know it, it would be irreversible, and she’d have to answer Kedrick’s question again.

So Beth shut her mouth. Kedric didn’t say anything either.

Only a long silence circulated between the two, and the rattle of the carriage and the breathing sounds of the sleeping people.

After a long time, the carriage arrived at Baron Hyde. Beth moved to find an inn that was still lit, and Kedric returned the luggage to Beth and told her that he had someone to meet.

“Did you really have someone to meet?”

“Haha, then, do you want to come?”

Beth glared at the naughty Kedrick and then, without looking back, entered a dimly lit building. Travellers and mercenaries played, poured and drank until this late hour. Nevertheless, the security was okay, the atmosphere was not harsh, and some women were seen.

I’m lucky.

“Let’s see, the single room is all gone.”

“Okay.”

Seeing Beth, who is presumed to be a woman who has traveled far by herself, the innkeeper said in a regret. Beth responded calmly and felt ironic that there were a lot of travelers, but only the single room had gone out.

Beth shook her head, it seemed that to travel alone was trendy in this area these days.

“I needed a private room, not a single room anyway.”

“Is that it? How many days are you going to stay?”

“A day.”

For one day, she handed 7 silver and received the room key. Beth tried to calculate the money she used to get to Baron Hyde and to stay here. It was because she thought that to hold onto and obsess over money she spent was useless.

One big bed, a round desk and two chairs. Glass windows that have been polished. Beth opened the bag. She thought that the quality and price was too expensive for a commoner to use – a black dress studded with sparkling jewels were finely laid on top. Beth wore a black dress from Dana and a shiny bee-shaped hairpin studded with numerous crystals from Claire. Then she put on her old cloak and went outside the hall.

It’s good that James not only gave her a simple admission ticket, but also a map. Beth thought, holding a small note in his hand. James drew well.

Click, click, the sound of the hell and the hem of the mantle rang at regular intervals. She went to an alley where she could not hear a single voice and with a suspicious light, and she reached the front of a large and hard door.

Beth took a deep breath and knocked on the door.

Knock, knock. After a while after two knocks, a man came out.

“Who are you?”

As the man was about to turn away when he saw the shabby cloak, a little hand suddenly reached out to the man and he clicked his tongue.

“This….” It wasn’t just an admission ticket, it was a VIP admission ticket.

When the old cloak was removed, the man was forced to open his mouth and look at Beth.

As Beth stood with the moonlight on her back, the countless crystals sparkled on her black dress which made it seem as if the Milky Way had reached the land of humans.

Beth spoke to him in an arrogant tone. “If you know who I am, what will you do?”

In a moment of pressure, the man took on a low stance and bowed his head without any knowledge of the quality of the crystals on Beth’s clothes. “I’m sorry. Madam, it hasn’t been long since I came here….”

“It’s okay, would you guide me inside then?”

“That’s….” He looked at Beth with an embarrassing expression.

No.

“…..”

Specifically, he looked to Beth’s side, “Well, the driver cannot be brought in…”

“What are you doing here?”

“… Kedrick.”

He said he was going to meet someone, and he stood confidently next to Beth.

Beth alternated between Kedric and the gatekeeper and spoke unshakably, “I brought him here for the first time and as a gift. Putting him in this auction would have good results.”

“…?”

“………???”

Kedrick looked at Beth with an expression asking when he had become an auction product, but Beth stepped on his feet and looked at him with a dull expression.

If you want to be with me, do whatever I ask.

As if he had read Beth’s eyes, he finally shut his mouth and laughed lightly, “So let me guide you.”

Kedrick was a commodity from this moment on.
