MLPBMH Chapter 29

10 Gold Life (4)

Everything was a gamble and Beth knew that this world wasn’t so tight for her. At least from that point when her memory as Beth began to blur, this world was generous to Beth.

In other words, she gambled to win unconditionally.

I didn’t know it was this easy.

She can’t believe the supervisor was so sloppy and did not ask for an advance payment.

Beth thought, Is it because this world is in a romance fantasy novel? and decided to not think about it further.

It was a good thing to be able to handle it relatively easily.

“Wha, wha, what!” Aiden was amazed and looked at Beth.

“I said earlier. Strong power solves the moment, but wise wisdom solves the whole life.”

“This, what kind of wisdom is this! With ignorant strength…!”

“Yes, I used a strong force to solve the moment. Everything should be used in the right place.”

“Ignorant woman!!!”

“Even if you’re upset, save it.” Beth replied,  as she did not care if he was surprised or not, and took the heavy key from the fallen man’s waist which included the keys to the handcuff.

“Let’s see.”

What key was it when he opened the iron bars earlier? Beth looked one by one and picked up a rusty key that didn’t have any numbers stamped on it and had signs of use of use.

At once, the iron bars were unlocked. When the door opened, the slaves gathered in the corner were and looked in wonder at Beth.

“Come out.”

Beth threw the pack of keys toward Kedrick and left the keys that matched Aiden’s handcuff number.

“I was worried because I thought you were really going to sell me.”

“You knew it wasn’t like that, but you still did.”

Beth turned her away without making eye contact again with Kedrick.

“Come here.”

Beth released Aiden’s handcuffs with the key she held.

He looked at Beth with a puzzled look on his face. “Why….?”

“Listen, Aiden.”

Beth whispered only to Aiden.

“You are going to the mansion where I live now. Your name is Ryan from now on.”

“…..”

“You’re my youngest brother, and you ran away from town too, and you met me by accident…. Let’s discuss other settings later.”

Maybe he wasn’t a stupid kid as he understood Beth. It’s just a contingency. He shouldn’t be caught as a slave.

Even if it was illegal, he might have been taken to an auction house somewhere else if he was caught. It was illegal to say, but it was something that everyone enjoyed.

Aiden, no Ryan, nodded his head.

“I’m Beth, and I’m your sister. And in a little while… The handsome guy is Kedrick.”

“Hello, nice to meet you.”

As soon as the introduction was over, Kedrick, who had to remove his handcuffs, retrieved the stolen sword and coat, and wore it on his side.

Beth wasn’t surprised that he was next to her again.

Ryan looked at Kedrick with a somehow terrified look on his face.

“Eh… Ryan, what’s wrong?”

“Mo…. Mo….”

“Mo…?”

“It’s a monster…!!”

A moment of silence came as Ryan was terrified and pointed at Kedrick, who also didn’t say much. He who always laughed, somehow didn’t laugh.

“…..?”

No, he looked somewhat disappointed.

As Beth looked at Kedrick’s face, he felt his gaze and smile as usual, as if the previous expression was an illusion. Beth looked down again.

“It’s not a monster, it’s Kedrick.”

“Ah ah! Get your face off, go away monster!”

“What is this? Kedrick, don’t make fun of the kid.”

Kedrick laughed ha ha ha ha with a little power, then put on a coat and took the lead toward the back door.

And he listened at the door and he said. “Well, not at all.”

“What? “

Beth, who stood behind him, tilted his head, as she did not understand what he meant.  Kedrick tried to get his knife out of his swordspot and smiled at her.

“It’s nothing.” Kedrick said so and opened the door.

She could see some people that guarded the door.  For now, it seemed that some people ran to the front door and returned to the back door.

With a smile on his face, Kedrick ran to them in no time, and then knocked them hard at the backs of the two with the handle of the sword which stunned them.

“Strong power solves the moment. So, before the moment is over, should we quickly run away?”

Beth grabbed Ryan’s hand and walked out the door. The sound of the front door, where the turmoil took place, came from a distance.

The slaves who took off the handcuffs went out carefully one by one.

As they saw Kedrick, Beth and Ryan in the moonlight, they muttered that they would not forget Beth’s grace and ran away.

“So, shall we go back now?”

“When did you pack that again?”

Kedrick handed Beth and Ryan two thick robes to wear.

Beth dressed without saying anything and Ryan looked at Beth and quietly followed her.

For Ryan, the robe was too big and dragged to the floor, and Kedrick laughed and hugged him.

“Go away, you monster!”

“Haha, if you keep saying that, I’ll get hurt.”

Ryan looked at Kedrick who didn’t seem to be hurt by the words at all.  Beth quietly tucked Ryan’s hood over his head, which made Kedrick invisible.

“Be a little patient, because I don’t have enough strength to lift you right now.”

Her arms shook as she thought perhaps she hit the chair too hard earlier. Beth naturally headed towards the inn she had been at earlier.

Kedrick, of course, followed where she was headed to.

“Kedrick.”

“Yeah?”

“How did you come to see me?”

“I swear to Diar, it’s a coincidence.”

Kedrick explained that the group he had decided to meet was in an alley nearby. So he quickly finished his work and walked outside to catch an inn, and he saw a person and said that it was Beth.

Most of the people who lived in Innomore believed in Diar, and although the oath was a true word, Beth, who was not part of the country so she squinted her eyes and questioned Kedrick.

“… Then why are you looking for accommodation without staying at their house?”

“I don’t like them very much.”

“There’s someone you don’t like?”

“Yes, of course I do.”

“Who kind of person?”

When asked by Beth’s question, he laughed and made a noise. “That’s a bit difficult to explain.”

“Why?”

“It’s difficult to explain.”

“So why?”

Unlike usual, Beth’s questions persisted. Kedrick was so unfamiliar with this side of her because she had never asked so persistently.

“Later. Later, I’ll let you know then, if Beth still likes me.”

“…..”

“I’m not talking about love in fiction or poetry. Human versus human.” Kedric drew a line, as he said the two are distinctly different.

No other desire was seen in his words.  Beth thought as she rolled her little head.

He’s a person who likes everyone, and she didn’t understand what he said, but she just nodded.

“Okay, you may never know, but I’ll make a promise.”

“Yes, I may never know forever.”

Beth doesn’t know, but Kedrick hoped that Beth would like him somehow the same as how she hated him right now.

“Then Beth.”

“What?”

“What kind of person do you like, Beth?” The question was give and take and Kedrick said in a laughable tone.

“… a person without lies.

“I hate people who cheat on me.”

She closed and opened her eyes, as she thought of her past lover who had deceived her and took care of his own interest. The happy times she had with him became a source of pain.

It was the reason why she didn’t trust love even when she had no memory of Beth for a while.

“So you’re not the one I’m going to like.”

She was funny to say this as she continued to cheat people. As she felt that her own words were selfish, Beth slowly closed and opened her eyes.

So, she wouldn’t even like herself. Even in her own opinion, it was a little strange.

With those hazy memories as ‘Beth’ came back a little bit, Beth still had doubts.

Am I really Beth?

Kedrick just looked at her as he tried to discern her thoughts.

“Then you will hate it forever.”

“Maybe.”

“I’m sorry.” Kedrick laughed. He looked really happy. He was a really strange man.

Ryan fell between the two’s conversations and rolled his eyes without saying a word. Adults who couldn’t act their age continued to have strange conversations between themselves.

Little by little, as he heard more of the conversation, Ryan raised his head up and turned his head toward them.

It was the inn where Beth rented her room. Even though it was late, there were still people drinking alcohol.

“We will stay there for today and return to the mansion.”

“The mansion…”

“Yes, mansion. That’s where I work.” Beth said that there was a lady in the house.

It wasn’t really worth knowing when they returned. But for Beth, her priority was only Claire.

As soon as they returned, Beth had to introduce Ryan to her maid chief as her own family, and then obtain permission to stay with her.

Of course, she had to pay more for the living expenses, but it was okay since it won’t be for a long time.

When Beth arrived at her inn, the friendly looking woman recognized her, and gave her a big smile.

Beth looked at her with her puzzled face. “Are you hurt?”

“Oh, it’s ugly isn’t it?”

Beth wriggled her eyebrows as she looked at her sore legs.

“I wasn’t really doing anything, but my legs were sore all of a sudden. So it turns out … I hurt my legs.”

One of the people who was drunk said he hurt his legs and began to check all the customers in the room just in case. Then the innkeeper asked Beth if she was hurt.

“I’m fine.”

As Beth shook her head, the innkeeper smiled, saying that she was fortunate, and then looked at Beth’s party.

“Where did you go, did you come to pick up your husband and son?”

“What?”

“What?”

“Haha.”

Beth thought for a moment if she looked so old. Ryan also looked at the innkeeper with an expression of absurdity, as if she spoke nonsense. Kedrick laughed silently.

The innkeeper looked at Kedrick’s face and had eyes that seemed bewitched.

“You’re really handsome, I’d snatch it, if it weren’t for her! It’s been 5 years since my husband died.”

The owner of the inn added information that Beth didn’t want to know and Beth was surprised to learn how Kedrick looked like her late husband.

Beth became annoyed, and she asked for a favour so she could sleep, because her husband and children were tired and sleepy.

Only then, freed from the innkeeper, Beth pressed her forehead with her weary face. Kedrick rolled his eyes in the air and said to Beth with a playful expression.

“Honey?”

“You crazy….”

Had Beth ever cursed at others? Beth looked at Kedrick with a disgusting expression. Only then did he laugh again.

“Finally, you can see it properly.”

“….”

It wasn’t until that time that Kedrick made such a joke – Beth repeatedly opened and closed her mouth and said again.

“Kedrick, if you play that kind of joke again, you’ll lose your hand.”

“?”

Kedrick tilted his head at the words and looked at Beth. “Beth.”

“Why.”

“What does that mean?”

“That’s.….”

Beth stopped talking as she tried to explain something to Kedrick. She felt a sense of incongruity.

“That’s.….”

[Probably it was the only child.]

[What is probably?]

[Because I cut off my family.]

[…..]

James didn’t ask what it meant at that time.

Why? Why didn’t James ask for the meaning of the word then?
