Be My Heroine Chapter 33

Then, I wish you good luck (4)

“I put a picture of my lady in the most expensive frame I have.”

“I see. That would be great.”

Unlike Beth, Kedrick was a commuter from town. So, he went to work early in the morning, and went home after midnight.

He always did  that, and it was amazing that he was lively compared to her. As the fatigue accumulated again, Beth felt the sensation rise up in her brain, and she pressed tightly between her eyes.

There were letters in Beth’s hand.

She handed all the letters to Kedrick, he said, “Send to the 10 most recently expelled people on the list you gave me.”

“Not all of them?”

“Emotion is consumable. It dulls over time.”

Anger does not exert that much power unless it’s taken out. At least in Beth’s standards.

“Then, I can send it on the way to the date today.”

“Date?”

“Yes, I’m going on a date with Jenny.”

“….”

She told him to flirt, but she didn’t know he’d do it that well. For Beth, he was only handsome but not very appealing, so she didn’t know how attractive he was to others.

“If you say it’s a date, then Jenny will go out and come back for a while.”

So, he laughed, adding that she should not say he was negligent.

“I didn’t really think about that.”

There was nothing risky for Claire lately. No, there has never been a particularly noticeable day.

The only thing Claire had to watch out for was the Countess. Beth suddenly realized that there was nothing wrong with Claire while she was away.

That’s weird….

She walked the hallway half with a feeling of weirdness, but also a feeling of gladness.

Today, Beth was stuck in her seat all day for breakfast and observed people.

Jenny, who was always dying every morning, smiled and sat next to Kedrick and talked about nothing in particular.

Kedrick smiled, but his eyes were slightly dead. Some people strangely comforted Beth whenever they passed by. Beth tilted her head as she had no idea why.

The maid also comforted Beth and cursed Kedrick.

Still, because she couldn’t figure out the reason for this, Beth countered against the words of the maid.

“Why does everyone look at me sadly?”

“Well.”

As they watched Beth and Kedrick walk side by side, several looked at Beth with sad eyes.

Kedrick simply smiled and walked away without saying much, as he placed his hand in his pocket.

Uhm

Beth pondered for a moment and decided to turn off her nerves. Because it didn’t seem to have any direct damage to herself anyway.

Whether she’s Tara, Jessie or Jenny, they looked at her with a bad look, but it was okay.

Kedrick tucked the letter that Beth gave him into his arms as he avoided the attention of others.

The letter she wrote was very simple.

<Hello. I am a maid who works for Countess Gordon. My respected seniors were busy, so after they left, I took this position. However, I am not as great as my seniors, so I cannot satisfy the Madame with this lack of skills. If it’s okay, can you give me some advice?>

So what she meant was….

Hey! Madam is totally an X, so let’s talk behind her back with me!

They may not know what it meant, but the brain even if the brain would not recognize it, and the heart would.

Oh, this day is an opportunity to get involved with those who suffered from that damn boss!

That aside, Beth did not write her name in this letter.

It’s because if she wrote down Jenny’s name, it feels like she was purposefully driving Jenny into a trap, but she shouldn’t be caught, so she copied Jenny’s handwriting.

She said that she couldn’t help it. Beth shouldn’t have died yet.

She had to close her eyes only when she got to see Claire reach an environment where she could be happy without her.

She didn’t care about Jenny… She didn’t matter from Beth’s point of view.

Though, she was sorry for her, so she thought of trying to not get caught as much as she can. Beth had that degree of conscience.

“From today, let’s serve together, not escort.”

“Haha, I haven’t heard of it.”

“Even if you’ve never heard of it, you’ve seen me do it.”

“Yes, there are many.”

“I’ll do the change of clothes for the lady and help with the bath, so you’ll do the rest.”

Then she handed over another document.

The papers described how to care for the children. Kedrick said, as he looked over it with an interesting expression,”Did you do this overnight?”

“Yes, I’m good at staying up all night.”

“Apart from that, you seem to have a lot of specialities.”

“I am best at staying up overnight.”

Although I did die from overwork.

Kedrick looked at the paper, and asked, putting it on his side, “Then what are you doing today?”

When she gave him these papers, it meant that Beth couldn’t take care of the children today.

Kedrick leaned down and looked at Beth. Even though he did not approach her, Beth shoved his face out of her space and said, “It’s not a big deal.”

It may be the most large scale of what she has done so far. The biggest thing so far was the calling 10,000 gold at the slave auction house.

Beth anticipated that the tired days would continue for a while from today.

***

The Countess had become very sensitive recently. Originally, she was of a sensitive nature, but even more so now.

Strange.

She recently felt that she was not welcome among the ladies.

With her position as the countess, her wealth and noble appearance, she drew the attention of all wherever she went. The attention that was always heard as the third, if not the first, was dispersed.

It didn’t feel pleasant when everyone looked at her.

Somewhere in her mind she did not know about, she felt that things were going wrong.

Even after she contacted Cheryl, the tailor, she said she was busy on a business trip, so the Countess was forced to go to another store. It was the first time she had ever seen this, so her heart felt like it was going to burst.

As she thought that something unfavorable was happening to her at an unknown place made her more upset and offended.

As she touched her cramped chest, she felt a breaking headache from the stress, she screamed and threw the vase on the table.

Clang!

A cracking sound was heard, and her maids were waiting to breathe in the silence that followed.

She glanced over her maids, wondering why the anger didn’t go away.

“Hmm?”

And she observed that a maid that she had never seen around her stood near her, so the countess approached with her eyebrows twitching.

“Where is Jenny? Why are you here?”

The countess couldn’t not know her.

She is a maid who served the child she and the Count hated. She always showed a polite attitude, but she’s somewhere a tough maid.

Beth. She couldn’t help but know the name.

Beth politely put her hands together, as she lowered her head and spoke respectfully,”Recently, because Jenny is not feeling well, I was asked to come in her stead.”

“As a favor? You?”

“Yes.”

Beth waited for the Countess to ask her why, and she organized in her mind the answers to reply.

“Why?”

“Because it is a great honor to serve you rather than to serve Lady Claire. And…”

“I get it. “

 “..Yes.”

The following reply was a bunch of nonsense that it was because Jenny wasn’t feeling well and her close friend was not feeling well either

Bess was pleased she doesn’t have to lie a lot.

The Countess observed Beth without hiding her unpleasant expression.  She persuaded the Count and the Count believed in Beth’s words, but not the Countess.

Let’s see what this sweet bitch is hiding.

When Beth was caught with what she was hiding, Beth’s neck would fly.

“Then, I’ll let you do something very easy.”

“Yes.”

Of course, it couldn’t be easy. Veteran maids are going to do bad things again…  And she looked at Beth, who would become her scapegoat.

“Bring me some coffee. Do not let the chef do it, do it yourself.”

“….”

Innomore’s beverage culture has developed a lot, and coffee has just begun to come in. There was also the concept of an object called a grinder, and nobles often enjoyed drinking coffee.

Therefore, some of the maids who served the nobles learned how to make coffee.

But Beth would not know how since she never served a noble.

It was the most classic way for the countess to harass her new maid.

Beth said, bowing her head deeply to her, “Yes, I’ll be right back with the coffee soon.”

“Yes.”

The Countess smiled as she watched Beth leave the room silently.

She couldn’t be able to make her favorite coffee even if that bitch ran or flew. No matter how competent she was among the new maids, she never did anything that suited her heart.

The Countess enjoyed teasing the lower ones so much. Was she bothered because Beth was younger and more beautiful than herself? It was not..

She still can’t forget that her own position was not originally hers.

And when she saw Beth, who took care of Claire endlessly, her insides were forced to twist even more.

The Countess frowned as she looked at her wrist, which had been held by Kedrick.

She was the countess and she wore clothes that didn’t suit her, and her personality has grown more and more. It’s as if someone would know her secret if they were given any slack.

So, she became ferocious.

The maids who remained in her room quietly looked at the countess as they cleaned the broken vases and cleaned the floor.

Hey, that bitch has come on board.

She was excited thinking of harassing her, who always stood expressionless. Oh yes, she thought it would be okay to take this opportunity to grab her and get her to quit her job.

This will give her less frequency of seeing Claire, who she doesn’t want to meet, and most of all, it will help relieve her stress.

So far, countless numbers of the Countess’ maids have been bullied and many have quit their job because of her. Sometimes the Count asked her if it would be better to refrain from it, but the Countess squeezed out tears and lied as she said that they ignored her.

Then the Count was appeased without saying anything. He loved his Countess.

After a while, Beth knocked on the door.

“Madam, I brought coffee.”

“Yes.”

Another maid opened the door. Beth brought a small cup of coffee covered with a lid on a silver tray and two pieces of cookies to serve.

No one could make a cup of coffee unless they learned to make coffee in a noble family.

The Countess took a sip and she laughed as she thought of what kind of fault to find with her. She wouldn’t have had to worry about what kind of trick she was going to do.

As soon as she drank, she would have noticed the problem.

She anticipated the success of her plan, and she took a sip of Beth’s coffee.

“….?!”

The coffee was incredibly neat and delicious.

It wasn’t just bitter, and the soft scent peculiar to coffee came to her throat. When she exhaled her breath, the scent of a strong coffee spread out.

“… Nonsense.”

Maids who haven’t learned to make coffee were not able to make the Countess’ favorite coffee.

But not Beth.

Beth lowered her head and smiled wryly.
