Former Assassin 5

Former Assassin - Arc 1 Early Life - Chapter 5

Lady Scalanet. Surely this commoner is just aware of her position. Look, it’s obvious from a glance how out of place she is.”

Is this flashy girl in the red dress called Scalanet?

I recalled the hierarchy of aristocratic powers that my tutor taught me.

I was pretty sure that Scalanet was the daughter of Count Jordan.

In terms of status, I was above her. Yet, she mistook me for a commoner and looked down on me.

She’s very short-sighted.

Despite being adopted, Rosemary was still the daughter of Duke Violet. She had the backing of the Duke family. For a mere Count’s daughter to throw insults at a Duke’s daughter…

Well, it doesn’t matter to me.

Nevertheless, I still found her fussiness annoying.

But if I were to attempt anything against her, it would surely lead to an uproar.

All right, I’ll assassinate her later.

Otherwise, she’d just pester me from this point onward.

In that case, I guess it’d be better to get rid of her, after all.

Hm, would that be enough? Or should I eliminate her entourage as well?

I looked at the ladies around Scalanet. There were four of them.

I can kill them with ease.

“Hey, listen to me!”

“Yes, I’m listening. More importantly, why don’t we go somewhere else? We’ll only stand out here.”

I shifted my gaze to the surroundings, causing Scalanet and the others to follow suit. Some were beginning to eye us suspiciously.

My presence was concealed by Scalanet and her entourage; hence, like a blessing in disguise, nobody took notice of me.

Judging from her attitude, I could gather that Scalanet liked being in the spotlight. Perhaps that was why her entourage consisted of girls less attractive than her.

“Oh my, you’re somewhat perceptive for a commoner. All right, I’ll come with you.”

She seemed determined to cause trouble at a tea party hosted by the Queen. Quite a daring young lady.

Well, what should I do?

“Can I have a moment with you?”

Just as I was about to take Scalanet and her entourage somewhere else, I heard a familiar voice.

Scalanet and the others turned to the source of the voice. She seemed about to berate whoever it was.

Can’t you see that I am—…Oh.”

But then, her cheeks became crimson as her voice faltered.

Scalanet began wriggling around and swooning for some reason.

Disgusting.

The person who called out to her was Evan, the prince of the Astra Kingdom.

“What’s the matter, Your Highness?”

At a glance, he seemed like a friendly young man with a gentle smile.

—Yet, that smile didn’t reach his eyes, devoid of any emotion.

None of the ladies were aware of that, of course.

Even in my previous life, I was involved with noble ladies; they were either targets, clients, and such. It certainly went without saying that these ladies were the most oblivious bunch I’ve ever come across. They were blissfully unaware of the feelings directed their way and ceaselessly fawned over him.

Somehow, it’s kind of funny.

“What were you doing just then?”

“Oh, I was just teaching a commoner the etiquettes of our social circle!”

Scalanet was attempting to get on his good side; yet, she was essentially admitting to bullying me. The fact that she cornered me with her entourage also didn’t help.

“…A commoner?

The prince glanced at me. His gaze was directed straight at me.

“Aren’t you misunderstanding something? She’s no commoner.”

“Huh?”

Scalanet and her entourage tensed up at the prince’s words.

…Well, my stepsister, who’s the actual former commoner, wears a flashy dress that is typical of a noble lady, while I myself wear a plain dress, so I get why she’d get the wrong idea.

“She’s Serena Violet, the daughter of a Duke. Are you okay?”

“Yes, everyone has been very helpful.”

“That’s wonderful, then.”

What are you talking about?

I failed to kill them because you got in my way.

“Oh, Older Sister, what’s the matter?”

Rosemary suddenly emerged from behind the prince. It was uncouth of her to interrupt the prince’s conversation.

Did Amaryllis teach her properly at all?
