Rise of Qinglian Chapter 6

Exterminate Evil Spirits

Late in the night when darkness had settled in deeply and all was quiet, Xiaofeng nudged open the cabinet doors and floated out once she figured all the townspeople were already asleep.

She shifted in place and transformed into a globe of green light and flew out of the courtyard.

At this time, the sky was utterly black and the town was enveloped in complete darkness.

It wasn’t long before Xiaofeng arrived in front of a house. Through the open window, she was able to see that there were five young men and three small children sleeping soundly in the room.

The room appeared to have been cleaned up as there was not a single piece of furniture in there save for a few straw mats.

Xiaofeng was not in a hurry to find Li Er Mazi for revenge as her appetite had become extremely big and she could no longer be satiated with just one young man’s vital essence.

But the Yang energy of eight people sleeping under one roof was too strong for Xiaofeng to approach.

She looked over several households and was surprised to find that each residence had no less than eight people sleeping in the same room. The Yang energy was too concentrated for her to go near.

“They were all sleeping separately yesterday and yet, they’re all assembled in one room now? Could it be that the Wang clansmen notified an immortal?”

Xiaofeng speculated this silently as a feeling of unease came over her.

She had grown up in Wanjia town and had heard that the Wang clan was a lineage of immortal cultivators. She once didn’t believe in the existence of immortals but after she became a ghost entity, she also believed in it.

Since ghost entities actually existed in this world, then the presence of immortals was not unusual at all.

“Third brother, wake up, wake up!” A young man suddenly woke up and shook his companion.

“Fifth little brother, what’re you doing! It’s already the wee hours of the night and you’re not sleeping.” His companion let out a big yawn as he spoke a little impatiently.

“I need to go relieve myself so come with me!”

“You’re already at this age and you still need someone to go with you to the latrine?”

“But Third Uncle clearly instructed: eight or more people must sleep in one room and even relieving oneself must be done in pairs to avoid giving the serial killer any opportunities. You think I’m happy to sleep in one room with you?”

“Alright! Alright! I’ll accompany you there!”

Upon hearing this, Xiaofeng came to a sudden realization. So this was to guard against a serial killer.

Because there was a string of people who died within their homes, many of the citizens believed that a serial murderer had appeared.

She continued to pass by several more Wang clansmen’s homes only to find that every residence had no fewer than eight people and so she was unable to make a move from the powerful Yang energy.

After much hesitation, Xiaofeng arrived at Li Er Mazi’s residence.

As Li Er Mazi was alone and the black dog that had guarded his door had been stoned to death by her hand, he was the ideal target for her.

There was another reason why Xiaofeng chose Li Er Mazi as her target. If the immortal had already arrived in town, then the main focus of his protection would be people of the Wang clan. Li Er Mazi was neither kith nor kin to the Wang clan so it was impossible for the clan’s immortal master to come running to protect Li Er Mazi.

All was silent within Li Er Mazi’s house and with the black guard dog already dead, Xiaofeng traversed across the yard without impediment and easily entered the abode.

Li Er Mazi laid on top of the bed snoring loudly in his deep sleep and smelling heavily of alcohol.

Xiaofeng drifted over to the bedside and was about to suck out Li Er Mazi’s life essence when a man’s voice suddenly spoke up. “You’ve finally appeared. Having already harmed so many people and yet you refuse to desist.”

Xiaofeng jolted in surprise and whirled around to see the delicate face of a young man clothed in blue who suddenly appeared behind her. It was Wang Changsheng.

“An immortal cultivator!” Xiaofeng cried out involuntarily as her delicate countenance drastically changed.

“Since you know I am a cultivator, are you not going to cease and desist? Think carefully, for I can still have someone recite the scriptures to redeem you of your sins.” Wang Changsheng said this with seriousness as he folded his hands behind his back.

If Wang Changsheng was to act immediately, he was confident that Xiaofeng could be eliminated immediately- except it didn’t guarantee that Li Er Mazi wouldn’t be put in life-threatening danger.

Although Li Er Mazi was not a member of the Wang clan, Wang Changsheng didn’t want him to lose his life.

Most importantly, Xiaofeng must have suffered great injustice and ill-treatment before her death. She could only have become a ghost entity because there still were unresolved grievances.

The majority of the Wangjia town population consisted of Wang clansmen. It couldn’t be guaranteed that Xiaofeng resented none of the clansmen for any transgressions they may have made. In this way, unless forced out of absolute necessity, Wang Changsheng didn’t want to prevent Xiaofeng from ever being reincarnated. Rather, he wished to help her overcome her enmity and let her be reborn as a human in her next life.

“Hah, not a single word you men speak can be trusted.” Xiaofeng sneered and with a flick of her sleeve, the tables and chairs in the room flew up and rushed towards Wang Changsheng.

Wang Changsheng waved a sleeve and an old, simply shaped, golden dagger appeared in his hand.

In fact, the entirety of the sword body was made of one hundred and eight golden copper coins strung together. Once spiritual power was injected into it, a golden net of spiritual patterns glowed upon the surface of the sword.

With a flick of his wrist, he obliterated the incoming pieces of furniture.

Xiaofeng took the opportunity during this time to slip Li Er Mazi’s body in a flash and possessed it.

Li Er Mazi immediately opened his eyes, rose to stand up and spoke in an affected manner, “I know I’m no match against you but if you have the guts, then you can kill him along with me.”

Upon saying this, Li Er Mazi burst out of the house and ran.

Wang Changsheng flicked his right hand and a golden light shot out to bind itself around Li Er Mazi’s body.

The golden color of the binding rope glowed impressively and its surface was dotted with spiritual patterns all over it.

Li Er Mazi could only feel body going taut, unable to take one step forward.

Wang Changsheng raised his left hand and a pale golden talisman seal flew out to attach itself to Li Ermazi’s body in a flash.

The anti-demon protection talisman was a first-tier, low-grade talisman that specially drove out low level ghosts from mortals.

With a single piercing cream, Xiaofeng flew out of Li Er Mazi’s body and he fell to the ground unconscious.

With a sweep of Xiaofeng’s sleeves, more furniture from within the house flew towards Wang Changsheng.

Wang Changsheng hurriedly swung the gold sword in his hand and cleaved the furniture apart.

Xiaofeng took the opportunity to phase into the wall and disappear.

Wang Changsheng retracted the golden rope, rushed towards the open window, and jumped out just in time to see a green light flying out of Li Er Mazi’s house.

His lips silently recited a spell and a large white cloud appeared out of thin air under his feet, lifting him up and moved in pursuit.

Before long, the green light flew into a courtyard overgrown with weeds and disappeared.

As soon as Wang Changsheng drew near the courtyard, he felt that the place was saturated with Yin energy.

Ghost entities had an affinity to Yin energy and that energy here was strong, making it a very suitable place for Xiaofeng to hide.

Wang Changsheng was not a Mao Shan sorcerer specializing in exorcising ghosts. Without a ghost divination board, he would be unable to determine Xiaofeng’s location.

He glanced at the pagoda tree within the courtyard and suddenly came to an epiphany. Pagoda trees correlated with Yin energy, it was no wonder that the Yin energy here was so heavy.

A red talisman flew out from his hand the moment he raised it, turned into a fist-sized blazing fireball and struck the pagoda tree.

Ka-boom!

The fireball burst open and transformed into a violent inferno as it enveloped the thick trunk of the tree. It didn’t take long before it was completely burned, reduced to a whirl of ashes without any residue left.

A first-tier, low grade fireball talisman cost one spirit stone apiece. Wang Changsheng had no fire spiritual root, so he naturally couldn’t practice fire art and could only resort to talisman seals to cast fire attribute spells.

Wang Changsheng turned towards the abode that faced the pagoda tree, took out another fireball talisman and threw it in that direction.

Soon, billowing flames enveloped the whole structure as well.

Bam!

It was then that a wooden cabinet flew out of the house with a loud noise and flung itself straight towards Wang Changsheng.

Wang Changsheng launched forward the gold sword in his hand, flicked his ten fingers in quick succession, and casted several spells onto the propelled sword. The gold sword suddenly bursted into brilliant light as it turned into an intensely dazzling lightning and flew forward to split the wooden cabinet in two.

Crash!

With a loud explosion, the wooden cabinet was smashed into pieces and Xiaofeng swiftly escaped from its interior with a loud, wretched scream.

Xiaofeng, who had materialized in the form of her original body was now transparent in color, seemingly withered and wasted away.

She wanted to turn into a globe of green light and escape, only to be horrified with the realization that she could no longer fly. She rushed to the courtyard entrance.

Wang Changsheng performed a formula with a single hand and the illuminated gold sword rose, spun around, and promptly pierced itself right through Xiaofeng’s body in a flash.

Xiaofeng let out a scream once more as she turned into a puff of green smoke and dissipated.
