True Daughter 10

The True Daughter Isn't Human - Chapter 10

Xia Jianping was sitting in the car, and he held his phone. "Nonsense, it's all nonsense…” He couldn't suppress his anger as he looked at the rampant speculations online. He wanted to throw his phone away but held back when he glanced at Meng Yu beside him.

Looking up again at A’Yang who was sitting in front, his expression became somewhat grim.

Whether this involved blood relations or not, he couldn't help but feel that this daughter was a walking disaster. Why else would so many things go wrong one after another ever since her return?

As if she could read his thoughts, A’Yang turned to look at him, with a smirk on her lips. "I’m a walking disaster? Why don't you admit that it’s because you've done too many wrongs, and now, you're facing the consequences?"

Xia Jianping's face turned red with anger.

"Sister, how can you say such things about Dad? That's too much," Xue Yuan disapproved of her words as she looked at her. "This is our family's business, and now, it's even gotten the police involved. How will others view our family?"

A’Yang glanced at her and scoffed. "If you're in the right, why would you care about how others see you?"

"You…"

"Yuan Yuan, stop talking." Xia Jianping stopped Xue Yuan from saying more.

He was already quite agitated. He regretted bringing Zhou Yang directly home.

Wu Meijun also wanted to get angry but had to hold back when she saw Meng Yu.

Xue Chen was a very perceptive person and didn't say anything either.

The Xue family was filled with pent-up anger, with no outlet to release it.

Not looking at their phones didn't mean that the hot topic didn't exist. Just by guessing, they could imagine how nasty the comments would be.

Meng Ji patted Xue Yuan's back and made a phone call.

"Uncle, the hot topic has been taken down. As long as you all appear safely in everyone's sight, this matter will soon pass."

"Ah Ji, thank you so much." Xia Jianping’s gratefulness toward Meng Ji rose, and his dislike for A’Yang grew exponentially.

Meng Yu remained silent, staring at her phone. Her son was in love, and she didn't want to interfere. She thought that it was just a casual fling, but who would have thought he was serious.

Looking at the information about the Xue family that Meng Ji had investigated, Meng Yu was even more dissatisfied with Xue Yuan since now she knew the girl he had set his eyes on was a counterfeit.

After dropping off the Xue family, Meng Yu didn't even glance at them. She instructed the driver to take her back. Once they were out of sight, she spoke up, "Ah Ji, do you know that the girl named Xue Yuan is not Xue's biological daughter?"

"I know."

"You know?" Meng Yu looked at Meng Ji, visibly surprised. "You're serious about that girl?"

"Mom, the one I've liked from the beginning to the end is Xue Yuan, and no one can replace her in my heart."

"But she's not the Xue family's biological daughter." While the Xue family might not be as prestigious as the Meng family, they were still a respectable bunch. If Xue Yuan turned out to be a counterfeit, Meng Yu needed to reconsider this marriage.

"I'm interested in Xue Yuan as a person. Her family has nothing to do with this. Besides, who is the Xue family? If it weren't for Xue Yuan, they wouldn't even deserve to stand in front of me." When Meng Ji mentioned Xue Yuan, his expression was incredibly gentle. However, when he talked about the Xue family, he was full of arrogance.

He knew many girls, but Xue Yuan was the only one who made him feel this way. If anyone dared to have ill intentions, he would make sure they regretted it.

As the Meng family's car left, the Xue family prepared to return to their villa.

After this ordeal, they had completely forgotten about the haunted incidents in the villa.

Looking at the scattered items in the living room, Xia Jianping couldn't help but feel a headache approaching.

"Hu Ma! Hu Ma!" Xia Jianping shouted, disregarding his image. Hu Ma hurried out upon his calling.

"You're back?"

"Why isn't this place cleaned up?"

Hu Ma looked at the items on the floor with hesitation. She had heard Miss Yuan Yuan talk about ghosts and hauntings. If she touched these things and got something bad on her, she would be quite uncomfortable.

Seeing Hu Ma's hesitation, Xia Jianping became even angrier. "What are you standing there for? Clean it up quickly! If you don't want to do it, you can leave right now."

"Sir, I'll clean it up right away."

Xue Yuan took a cautious look around, not seeing the ghost of Lin Siyu. She sighed with relief.

"Dad, please don't get angry. It's not worth it to harm your health over this," Xue Yuan assured him just as Hu Ma came over with the cleaning tools. Xue Yuan quickly suggested, "Brother, why don't we clean this place up first?" She reached down to pick up the incense burner from the floor, but to her surprise, the face of Lin Siyu suddenly appeared in the incense burner.

"Ah!" Xue Yuan screamed and fell back on the floor.

"What's wrong?" Xue Chen hurriedly supported her.

"She… She's right there." Xue Yuan, with a pale face, pointed at the incense burner.

Everyone looked, but they didn't see anything.

A’Yang, who had entered the room behind them, glanced at the incense burner and then went upstairs without a word.

Seeing Lin Siyu's horrifying appearance, Zhou Yang knew that the talisman from Master Shen was indeed powerful. It had distorted her to the point where she couldn't maintain her human form.

As A’Yang prepared to go upstairs, Lin Siyu was also about to follow. However, Xia Jianping suddenly grabbed a nearby vase and hurled it towards A’Yang.

Just as the vase was about to hit A’Yang, her expression darkened, and the vase instantly exploded, filling the room with shards.

Xia Jianping was startled and took two steps back. Zhou Yang hadn't even touched the vase, so how could it explode like that?

The incense burner on the floor, untouched by anyone, also started moving and rolled towards Xia Jianping's feet. Then, it was unexpectedly lifted off the ground.

In this bewildering situation, Xia Jianping should have turned and run, but his feet seemed rooted to the spot. He could not budge from the overwhelming shock and fear.

He watched as the vase flew toward him and slammed into his ankle.

"Ah!" Xia Jianping cried out in pain and fell to the ground, clutching his injured foot. The others were left baffled, not understanding what had just happened.

The one most affected by this bizarre scene was Hu Ma. Deep down, she felt that the family she was working for might not be entirely sane. She considered resigning at that moment. It might still be possible. If she waited until they all went crazy, leaving might not even be an option anymore.

No one paid attention to what Hu Ma was thinking. They only heard Xia Jianping mentioning that the incense burner flew and hit him, but they couldn't fathom what was going on.

"It must be Lin Siyu causing trouble. Dad, we need to find a way to get rid of her. We can't let her harm anyone else," Xue Chen suggested as she helped Xia Jianping to his feet.

Xia Jianping sat on the sofa, about to speak. However, he felt a sharp pain in his rear. He jumped up, but it aggravated his foot injury, and he ended up falling down in a rather embarrassing manner.

Zhou Yang didn't hold back her laughter, which turned somewhat sinister. She unintentionally revealed her appearance at the time of her death, even letting her ghostly aura seep through.

Xue Yuan, witnessing the appearance of another ghost in their home, reached out and grabbed Wu Meijun's arm. "There's another one. There's another ghost."

"What? All of you, pack your things. We need to leave this place immediately," Xia Jianping ordered, no longer concerned about his throbbing pain. He decided that they needed to get out of this haunted place.

"But… that ghost is standing by the stairs," Zhou Yang muttered. She had only appeared for a brief moment, and Xue Yuan had caught a glimpse of her scarred face but hadn't seen her clearly.

Even though they couldn't see her anymore, what if she was still there at the staircase?

She didn't dare to go up, and neither did Wu Meijun. Xue Chen wanted to rush up, but he was firmly held back by the other two.

"Forget it, we can buy new things. The most important thing is our safety."

Just as Xia Jianping was about to leave, Hu Ma had already made up her mind to resign. These people were just too strange; she might as well find another job.

As they were leaving, they didn't even think about taking A’Yang with them.

Sitting in the car, Xue Yuan gazed in the direction of the villa with worry. "Dad, what about my sister? Shouldn't we bring her with us?”

"Why bother? She's nothing but bad luck. Look at all the trouble she's caused since she came back home. Who knows, she might’ve planted a curse of death on your biological parents," Wu Meijun mumbled as he looked toward the villa with disgust.

Xia Jianping didn't say anything, and Xue Chen drove away.

On the upper floor, Zhou Yang stared in astonishment at the departing car. "They're just leaving like this?"

Lin Siyu's figure also appeared behind her, her smile forced. "Should I go and make them stay?"

"No need. Let them go. Living alone is fine."

Hu Ma, who had just finished packing, went upstairs to say goodbye to A’Yang. Upon hearing A’Yang talking to herself, combined with the late hour and the darkness around, it made her feel uneasy.

"Miss Zhou, I'm leaving."

A’Yang turned to look at her and nodded slightly. "Take care."

Hu Ma hesitated for a moment. "Wouldn't you like to leave as well?"

"No need. I'm fine here." A’Yang shook her head.

Hu Ma didn't say anything more and sighed before leaving.

As she walked out of the villa, Hu Ma couldn't help but glance back. A’Yang was still standing by the window, looking outside. Strangely, she thought she saw a figure next to A’Yang, but upon closer inspection, there was nothing there.

Hu Ma thought she might be seeing things. She shook her head and left with her luggage.

Zhou Yang watched her for a while and suddenly realized, "They've all left, and you're penniless here. How will you manage to eat and drink?"

"I can go without."

"That's right, you're a deity."

Suddenly, Lin Siyu's head turned 180 degrees, and her voice became slow and deliberate. "Tui… tion… fees…"

Zhou Yang looked at A’Yang with a puzzled expression. She knew that A’Yang was going to attend college, and that would mean exorbitant tuition fees. It seemed that the deity didn't have money on hand.

As she opened her mouth to say something, A’Yang interrupted her, "I'll take care of the tuition fees."

"Well, actually, you don't have to go to school," Zhou Yang replied. After all, she was dead, and whether or not she attended college didn't matter.

"Since I promised you, I will fulfill it."
