True Daughter 9

The True Daughter Isn't Human - Chapter 9

Feudal superstition may not be illegal, but when it caused harm to individuals, it meant going against the law.

They actually treated the little girl as a demon and were planning to get rid of her, which was simply ridiculous.

Master You’s hand trembled for a moment, and suddenly, he slumped to the ground, sweat forming on his forehead and trickling down in fine drops that gathered into large beads of sweat that ran down his cheeks and then fell onto the million-dollar carpet.

In the eyes of others, it looked like he was afraid of being caught by the police.

However, only he knew that among the people nearby or the ones in front of him, there were masters with spiritual power or cultivation surpassing his own.

He leaned toward those people among the incoming police because when they pushed the door open, his spiritual power seemed to be repressed. He was not only unable to use it, but it also made his whole body weak as if all his strength had been drained.

His disciples didn’t know how to act without his guidance; all they did was stare at him in confusion.

For a moment, Master You regretted not teaching them anything other than following his instructions blindly. Now, they were utterly useless.

The female police officer next to him had already learned the story from A’Yang and was visibly shocked. She couldn’t believe how there could be such parents who, even after realizing their child was not lost, still considered her a demon and sought out an occult master to get rid of her. It was simply absurd.

At this point, the Xue family was starting to comprehend the situation as well. They came to the conclusion that the person who had reported the situation to the police was A’Yang, but she had been there with them the whole time. How could she have reported it?

More questions arose in their heads, but answers were not forthcoming. As the victim, A’Yang’s words led everyone to the police station.

They were taken to separate interrogation rooms, and only Meng Ji remained silent, insisting on waiting for a lawyer.

A’Yang was taken to a small room by the female police officer, who provided her with water and comforted her.

Zhou Yang, watching from the side, couldn’t help but exclaim, “The police officers are more caring than her own family!”

As she said this, she floated into the interrogation room to take a look. Only after a few moments did she emerge from the room.

“Meng Ji and Xue Yuan are both unwilling to speak, but the others have talked, and no one believes them. Oh, by the way, Master You just pointed at me and spoke to the police, but no one believes him either.” Zhou Yang sighed as she sat next to A’Yang.

“The Xue family of three did mention their encounters with ghosts, but they were met with mockery from the police.”

Xue Jianping was a prominent figure, so his first instinct was to contact a lawyer. However, facing police interrogation made him uncomfortable.

After a while, they all emerged from the rooms. Leaving was not an option; they had

to stay at the police station temporarily and couldn’t leave.

A’Yang could see them, and Xue Yuan wanted to approach, but a female police officer behind her held her back, preventing her from going over, fearing a collusion.

Suddenly, A’Yang spoke up. “Very well.” The female police officer next to her didn’t quite catch what she said and asked in confusion, “What?”

“All of you are great at your jobs. Thank you,” A’Yang added.

The female police officer felt quite embarrassed by the abrupt praise. “This is what we should do. It’s part of our job after all.”

She sneaked a glance at A’Yang again and sighed deep down, genuinely feeling sorry for the young girl.

The one who should have been pampered and spoiled was her, but she had been maliciously switched with someone else. Upon returning to her rightful home, she was embroiled in such a situation.

“What are your plans for the future?” The female police officer wondered if A’Yang might have some psychological trauma and was considering looking for a therapist to help her.

A’Yang didn’t hesitate at all. “I’m going to wait for the new school term.”

“Huh? School?”

“Yes, school starts in a month, and I want to go to school.”

The female police officer hadn’t fully comprehended her words when Zhou Yang, deeply moved, couldn’t contain herself. She reached out and tugged at A’Yang’s sleeve. “Goddess, you’re so kind. At this time, you’re still thinking about going to school for me. I’m so touched.”

Seeing how she was crying until her face was practically unrecognizable with her facial scars showing, A’Yang yanked her sleeve away from her hand, somewhat disgusted.

She didn’t know what went wrong, but whenever she had the thought of harming someone, it was as if something invisible was stopping her.

After some contemplation, she chose the most direct method—calling the police.

Zhou Yang cried for a while and then floated over to A’Yang. “You’re a goddess, right? You should have many ways to deal with them. Why did you choose to call the police?””

“It’s the most convenient way,” A’Yang uttered with her eyes closed.

“What are you saying?” The female police officer looked at her with confusion.

A’Yang dodged the question. “I want to go to the restroom.”

“I’ll accompany you.”

“You don’t have to.” A’Yang stood up, walked in the direction the female officer pointed, and hadn’t reached the restroom yet when she saw a group of people approaching the entrance.

The leading lady, surrounded by everyone, walked in. Upon entering the entrance, she first glanced around before asking, “Is Director Zhang here?”

Everyone looked at her, and for a moment, it became unusually quiet. No one said a word.

The elegant lady furrowed her brows. Just then, a man in a white shirt came out, smiling, “Mrs. Meng, why are you here? If there’s something, let’s discuss it inside.”

As he said that, he gestured the lady in.

The lady looked around and finally fixed her gaze on A’Yang. With an arrogant expression, she scrutinized A’Yang from head to toe and then sneered disdainfully, “Is this the illegitimate child of the Xue family?”

Director Zhang glanced at A’Yang but didn’t speak.

Meng Yu didn’t need his response. She walked directly toward A’Yang and questioned, “You’re the one who reported my son and got him arrested, right?”

“Isn’t this Mrs. Meng, Meng Ji’s mother?” Zhou Yang floated over and circled around Meng Yu. No matter how she looked at it, she felt that this woman had a rotten attitude, so she took a deep breath and blew some air toward her.

All of a sudden, Meng Yu felt a cold breeze on her back which sent shivers down her spine, almost making her lose her composure as a high-class lady.

Turning her head, she saw that the air conditioning hadn’t been turned on, and she had no idea where that eerie wind came from.

She didn’t dwell on that issue, though. Instead, she turned her gaze back to A’Yang. “As long as you admit that my son wasn’t involved in this, the money inside this is yours.”

Saying that, Meng Yu took out a card and extended it in front of A’Yang.

The others were shocked by her actions. Was she trying to make the victim change her testimony right in front of the police? Wasn’t that challenging the law?

“Goddess, don’t take it. What if she’s trying to trick you?” Zhou Yang looked at Meng Yu with a cautious expression. Who knew if she was intentionally setting a trap by doing this in front of the police?

A’Yang chuckled. “Trying to bribe me?” She glanced at the police officers nearby. “Did you all see that? Arrest her!”

Everyone went silent.

The veins on Director Zhang’s forehead twitched. The Meng family held considerable power, and he didn’t want to offend them, but it didn’t mean that the Madam of the Meng family could make a witness change their testimony right in front of him.

“Miss Meng, this is a police station. Please be mindful of your identity.”

Meng Yu turned to give Director Zhang a glance. She smiled and put the card away. “I’m sorry. I just wanted to test if she was lying.”

Though she said that, there was a trace of contempt in Meng Yu’s gaze.

Her condescension was directed at A’Yang, an illegitimate child. How could she even appear in front of her?

“We’ll be the ones to investigate whether she’s lying or not. You don’t have to interfere,” Director Zhang responded.

Meng Yu remained silent and left with her lawyer to bail out Meng Ji, her high heels clacking as she sauntered away. However, Master You had received a call from Meng Ji, and he couldn’t release him so easily.

“Tell me, what do we need to do to get my son out of here?” Meng Yu was angry, but she also knew that this matter couldn’t escalate.

If it affected the Meng family, her dear brother wouldn’t let her off easily.

The two police officers in charge of interrogating Master You wanted to ask about the case, but Master You remained silent. Sweat kept dripping from his forehead, and his hands trembled continuously.

In the eyes of the police officers, this spiritual con artist was just petrified because he got caught.

However, only Master You knew how much he was suffering. It felt like something was running rampant inside his body, causing him extreme discomfort.

The interrogation made no progress. Although Xue Jianping and his wife admitted that they had hired Master You to perform a ritual, they claimed that it was Master You who mistakenly identified Zhou Yang as a demon, and they had nothing to do with that.

Again, engaging in feudal superstition wasn’t illegal; it was the fraudulent charlatan, Master You, who wanted to cause harm. They considered themselves victims.

Meng Yu’s competent lawyer intervened, and soon, Meng Ji and the Xue family were released.

As for Master You, during the interrogation, he coughed up blood out of the blue and was rushed to the hospital.

The police also investigated his disciples but didn’t make much progress either. Master You was very cautious, and his disciples mostly assisted him in various tasks, unable to provide much information.

Regarding the previous Master Shen, they also sent someone to investigate. He hadn’t harmed anyone; his main activities were related to Feng Shui consultations. Since these consultations were voluntary, there was no deception involved. After a few questions, they released him.

Master Shen knew exactly where he stood. When he heard he could leave, he immediately prepared to make a dash for it. However, when he heard a familiar name, he stopped in his tracks.

He looked at the police officers who were discussing the case and walked over after standing still for a while. “You said the swindler who harmed people is surnamed You? Is his name You Guanqun?”

“Yes, do you know him?” The police officer looked at the master. It wasn’t unusual for colleagues in the same field to know each other.

“No, I don’t know him.” Master Shen stepped back two paces and turned, running without looking back.

When A’Yang came out, she only saw his retreating figure. However, she didn’t pay much attention to it. After a brief glance, she withdrew her gaze. She took a few steps further and encountered Xue Jianping and his group.

Naturally, Xue Jianping didn’t have a pleasant expression for A’Yang. Meng Ji’s family’s lawyer had come to bail them out, and he explained what had happened outside.

Surprisingly, the Xue family became a trending topic.

Someone had recorded a video of them getting out of the police car, which naturally made its way to the top of trending topics.
