Former Assassin – 4
Former Assassin - Arc 1 Early Life - Chapter 4
The day of the tea party arrived.
It was sponsored by the Queen, thus the princes would be attending.
This tea party wasn’t only a rehearsal for our debut in the social world, but also to select the princes’ entourage and fiancée candidates.
As a result, all the children of the aristocrats, besides me, were desperately trying to dress up for the occasion.
“I-I wonder if I can become a prince’s wife, too…”
Despite not having fully embraced the refined language of a young lady, Rosemary spoke with beaming eyes.
Isn’t that just asking for the impossible?
The hierarchy system in this world was identical to the one in my previous life. Therefore, there was no way a prince would go out of his way to court someone who was formerly a commoner, even if she’d been adopted into a noble house.
Moreover, even though we were a Duke family, the Violet House wasn’t that well regarded in the social circle. Due to family businesses, my father often went abroad and he didn’t work in the palace either, much less be affiliated with the royal family.
Because of his simple family and lack of ambitions, he was treated like a laid-back lower-class nobleman.
“O-Older Sister, let’s go greet the princes, too!”
I turned my gaze from Rosemary to the princes.
…A thick wall of humans surrounded them.
The aristocrats made their children wear perfume. Although both the men and women wore different types of fragrant perfume, when so many scents were mixed together, it just became pungent.
…It’s like a battle of aphrodisiacs.
“No thanks. If you want to go, you can go by yourself.”
“Eh!? But I’m afraid to go alone.”
I guess she doesn’t like the idea…
Rosemary was afraid, so she wanted me to come with her. Her current life must’ve been dreamlike, so she was eager to ‘dream’ some more. Yet, she couldn’t muster up the courage to do so.
—These were the emotions that I could gather from her.
Well, I don’t feel the need to be there for you.
I glanced at the princes again. Somehow, my gaze collided with one of them. Nevertheless, I ignored him and went to the corner.
“But Older Sister…”
“I’m tired, so I’m going to take a breather. You’re free to do as you like.”
I moved to the shade of the three, leaving Rosemary alone.
This place is so crowded. I’m exhausted.
“Hey, you.”
I was immediately on alert, but the threat that stood in front of me was too cute to be called that.
It was a girl with blonde hair and black eyes, wearing a bright red dress adorned with black lace and a red ribbon at the back of her head.
“The princes are here, but you aren’t even going to exchange some greetings with them? How rude… Or maybe, you want to stand out by acting differently? How unseemingly. As expected of a commoner.”
Apparently, the girl had mistaken me for Rosemary.
I glanced at Rosemary and saw that she was rushing into the flock of young ladies who’d doused themselves in perfume.
Does Rosemary want to become the prince’s fiancée that badly? Well, even if she does, it doesn’t concern me.
“Hey, are you listening?”
Now, what should I do with this chirpy little bird?
From the incident with Bruce, I learned that murder was bad.
Come to think of it, although Bruce was wary at first, he’d grown attached to the people at the mansion; though, the dog would still avoid me.
Is it because I stabbed him?
I couldn’t believe that I was still hung up on the past. I never thought I was such a narrow-minded person

Serena: Hm, if I stab her like I did the dog, without killing her, she might become quieter…

Meanwhile Bruce: No comment.
