MLPBMH Chapter 24

My first dance to you (4)

One morning, Baron Garney Dikel Norman was greatly upset. This was because Count Gordon, who owned a wealthy estate, had sent an invitation to a party to announce and celebrate the Miss’ recovery. Baron Norman was the owner of a small estate, but there weren’t many special products or much private property to consider.

However, they were not particularly poor or rich. To put it bluntly, it was a bit of a land. And in such a place, an invitation from the Count suddenly arrived – surprising since they have never exchanged before.

Baron Norman was convinced this was a big opportunity. So it was decided to recommend his daughter as the Miss’ playmate.

Although the letter was strangely shabby, no doubt was raised in the excitement that they might have made a connection.

The letter was sent by Beth after she stole and forged it from Viscount Effie.

The guards and butler who guarded the door of the mansion were confused at first when they saw them, but as soon as they saw the invitation, they nodded and guided them to the Count and Miss.

It was thought that there was a mistake when Baron Norman’s name failed to get written. Baron Norman was weak among the nobles and had little interaction with the original Count Gordon, so he had no idea how weak Claire’s position was. As soon as Baron Norman knew that neither his power nor money was significant, he was refused to join their group.

In a cold sweat, the Baron found a little blonde girl who stood alone in the distance.

It was Claire.

Baron Norman approached Claire with his daughter.

“Hello. Miss.”

The child, who held a glass of grape juice in her small hand, looked up with amazement to see who had spoken to her.

“I’m Baron Norman. This is my daughter Chelsea Tasha Norman.”

The girl with light green hair and purple eyes looked at Claire. Chelsea was younger and shorter than Claire and had sparkling eyes.

“Pretty!”

Her opal-like pupils filled with different colors each time the light hit them and her cheeks burned with an excited face –  like someone who discovered a very large gem.

“What’s your name?”

“Chelsea.”

She wasn’t used to being formal since she hung out with commoner children in her own territory. Chelsea quickly became sullen when her father rebuked her when he did not allow her to play with them.

However, Claire liked Chelsea, who was used to speaking informally without hesitation. The only people who spoke respectfully around Claire were adults. Before long, the children began to laugh and chat with each other as they drank juice.

Beth, who looked from the sides where she couldn’t hear what they were talking about, sang with delight. “Are you trying to make a friend for the lady?”

“…Well, it’s good to make friends.”

If you ask if she was trying to make friends, it wasn’t actually that. Beth was interested in the Normans, but not actually interested in them personally. Baron Norman owned a hill, which was Beth’s concern.

Cecil struggled to renew her image after being possessed, and succeeded in changing the minds of many people to bend to her will. But Arthur, the male protagonist, was still suspicious of Cecil. Then an unknown disease began to spread in the system and Cecil quickly solved it. Arthur became even more suspicious of Cecil in the process yet he fell for her.

As soon as she thought of Arthur, who fell in love with Cecil, she felt sick again. Beth then discovered that the ingredients for the cure that healed the disease was in the hill owned by Baron Norman.

Yes… What Beth wanted from Baron Norman is not a close relationship with Claire, but the hill.

Beth knew that Baron Norman was originally weak because she had clear memory from reading the novel. If she invited them to the party, they would not fit anywhere and because of their weak position, they would not have had a chance to get the real story about Claire.

So, in the end, Baron Norman would approach Claire, and Chelsea, who had just become close to Cecil and was about the same age, expected to be friends with Claire. And Beth’s hunch hit the spot.

Claire was excited because it was the first time she had met a child of her age, and she had a variety of expressions on her face, and she smiled more humorously than when she was with Beth. Beth was bitter about the fact, but she watched with the feelings like a parent who looked at their child’s growth.

After relationships were made, it would be easy to get that hill later. With these thoughts, she decided not to watch Claire anymore. Now that she has a friend, it would be okay if Beth didn’t protect her.

In such a crowded place, there was no shameless adult who would openly embarrass Claire, so Beth got up to do something else. Watching Claire wasn’t really for her, so it was time to do the job for ‘real’ Claire.

She said, as she pushed Kedrick’s arm as he followed her.

“Don’t you think I should be around the Miss? She gave me pudding too.”

“We’re talking about little girls, a boring, big man, shouldn’t stand next to a little girl and talk to her.’

And your face is funny. Beth thought. The moment she said that, she had a premonition that Kedrick, an annoying human, would have a bigger stake in her life, so she made a wise choice to keep her mouth shut.

“Stay by her side, just in case. That’s your job.”

“What kind of maid wasn’t doing her job and was just watching her?”

“….”

She could not believe every word that came out of his mouth was so mean. Beth’s eyes narrowed.

“I’m doing my own job, so do your job too.”

“Is this your job or the lady’s job?” Kedrick asked with his eyes twinkling.

“It’s for Count Gordon.” Beth replied and left.

She was tired and her vision was blurry. Beth walked and pressed hard between her eyes.

Unlike the banquet hall where music was heard and employees took a break in the busy kitchen. Anne, Catherine, and Julie, who had been in charge of the kitchen and ate one sandwich each for break.

Beth sat down next to them, and naturally opened her mouth.

“It’s hard.”

“Are you having a hard time there too?”

It was difficult to watch Claire, but the other three who didn’t know looked at her with anxious expressions, took a sandwich, and put it in Beth’s hand. It was a moderately thin sandwich with a little spicy mustard on it and a thin ham sticking out.

There was no need to refuse delicious food, so she quietly took a bite or two and said, “The Miss says thank you.”

“Thank you, it’s our job.” The three laughed. When they saw the round eyes, they almost stopped breathing because there was no opportunity to face Claire in person.

Beth retorted that it wasn’t right to bother the little child so much. Then she put down the pudding she got from Claire, “The lady says thank you and to share it.”

The pudding in a small glass was ridiculously small to share with four people, but it was enough to impress those who were only maids from the commoner class.

“I only got one because I snuck it out from the banquet hall. Don’t thank her separately because she is very shy.”

Julia, Anne and Catherine looked at the little pudding with emotions.  How can a little girl think so deeply? As Beth watched the three twinkling eyes, she exhaled a moderately small breath and as expected, the other three reacted immediately to that one breath.

“What’s up, Beth?”

“No, it’s just… no.”

Anne, who was embarrassed, asked Beth again in a soft voice. “If it’s okay, tell me, we’re friends.”

Beth, who never reveals her feelings openly, couldn’t help but worry others when she showed an anxious expression like this. All three looked at Beth with anxious expressions, “Actually, I lost something when I was really young.”

“Oh my gosh ..”

“How did you accidentally lose it?”

Beth was deliberately mobbing, and then spoke, “So I was looking for floodgates… Found in Baron Hyde’s edict?”

“Hyuk, did you find it?”

“That’s so good, Beth!”

“Yes, it was good but…” Beth sighed as she spoke in a voice with gloomy feelings.

“But I have to take care of her. Without me, who will see her?”

Beth deliberately lowered her head and looked at her wiggling feet. Julia, Anne, and Catherine simply looked at Beth and nodded and said at the same time as if they made a pledge.

“We’ll take care of her.”

“Yep!”

“Do not worry about it!”

“Guys……”

In fact, she expected everything. Beth, who pretended to know nothing, pretended to be unexpected, and looked at her roommates with her hands on her chest.

“Thank you very much… I’ll tell the master in advance.”

“Yes, as long as it’s worth it.”

“You have to be careful, the master…”

“I know! Don’t worry!”

The four maids continued to converse with voices that others cannot hear.

“Don’t sit down, do work!” An uninvited visitor broke this warm atmosphere.

Anne called the uninvited guest’s name. “Jenny.”

Jenny looked down at Beth’s group who held a tray of Sangria and other liquor, as the Countess had ordered it.

“Someone’s so busy, but you have time to relax?”

“It’s break time.”

“Right. “

“… anyway! “

Jenny, who had no words to say as she found fault in her, grunted and caught her breath. “If you’re going to take a break, take a rest where others can’t see it. Don’t bother anyone else!”

Beth looked at Jenny with narrowed eyes. I’m afraid I’m going to burst if I keep looking at that face.

“It’s because you don’t have much to see.”

Jenny bragged and uttered excessive information no one wanted to know.

“Okay, so just go… Emily.”

Beth told Jenny to stop talking.  She was also angry that she stopped talking, but she got the name wrong again. Jenny’s face turned red and green, so she screamed, “It’s Jenny!” and then left.

“Jenny wasn’t that kind of person originally….”

“Really? “

“Yeah, a senior named Dorothy told me that, at some point, she became weird. Last fall? I heard it started from winter.”

“Dorothy was a high-ranking maid employed in the same quarter as Jenny.  At that time, 10 maids were chosen, but only two of them were left, so Dorothy takes a lot on Jenny,” Catherine added.

Beth nodded and stood up. That’s right.

Several hypotheses emerged in Beth’s mind. And some of these hypotheses seemed to be correct.

“I’ll get going.” She said strangely, with such confidence.
