True Daughter 11

The True Daughter Isn't Human - Chapter 11

Zhou Yang looked at Lin Siyu, who had just straightened her head, and was also startled. "Why did you suddenly become like this?"

Lin Siyu's eyes rolled stiffly in her eye sockets, and her smile became somewhat eerie. Despite that, at least she still spoke normally. "I don't know either. After being injured by that Taoist's talisman, I've been twitching somewhat uncontrollably and ended up in this state."

Her cultivation was much stronger than Zhou Yang's, who relied on A’Yang’s protection as Lin Siyu relied on her own resentment.

If she hadn't encountered A’Yang, she would have turned into a vengeful spirit and made it her mission to seek vengeance against those people. At that time, even if she wanted to stop, she wouldn't be able to.

After speaking, Lin Siyu walked stiffly to the window, trying to look up at the moon in the sky. Unexpectedly, her head drooped after a distinct crack sound, and blood welled up in the corners of her eyes.

A’Yang frowned at her. Golden light emanated from her fingertips which flew onto Lin Siyu, making her soul less stiff.

With her normal self restored, Lin Siyu adjusted her head and sighed. "Being a ghost isn't easy!"

Zhou Yang looked at her with a disgusted expression. "Control yourself. You're quite frightening in your current state.”

"Do you think I want to be like this? It's all because of that wretched Taoist's talisman. It was too powerful. Besides, do you think you look good yourself?"

The two ghosts bickered with each other, seemingly unaware of A’Yang’s presence as she gazed into the distance, her thoughts unclear.

As Zhou Yang continued arguing, she sat down and propped her chin with her hand. "Forget it, we're all in a dreary state. There's no need to compare our misery."

"You're not having an easy time either. Clearly, you're the biological daughter, and yet, they only want the adopted daughter, not you," Lin Siyu added.

Zhou Yang rolled her eyes. "I think I’ve heard Lin Jiao mention that you're her father's illegitimate daughter. Is that true?"

"Of course not. That's just nonsense. I am my father's biological daughter. How could I be his illegitimate child?"

"Then, how did you end up in his house?"

Lin Siyu furrowed her brow and thought for a moment. It was strange that she had no memory of her life before, especially how she had ended up in the Lin family. It was all too peculiar.

"It seems… It’s because my parents passed away, so he kept me with him. He treated me very well, so Lin Jiao and her mother always looked down on me, which probably led to their speculation of me being his illegitimate daughter."

Lin Siyu could recall the memories in the Lin family quite clearly.

"I remember when I was young, my dad's business was doing well, but Lin Jiao's father didn't succeed, and he was even cheated of a lot of money. My dad paid off his debts for him. Later on, my family's fortunes declined sharply, while Lin Jiao's father's business kept growing."

Lin Siyu's face was filled with confusion. It seemed like she had forgotten something, something very important, but she couldn't bring it out from the depths of her mind.

The more she tried to remember, the more her head hurt.

Seeing her in such agony, Zhou Yang patted her shoulder and said, "If you can't remember, then don't force yourself."

Being a ghost was different from being human; if a human couldn’t recall something, it didn’t matter, but for a ghost, dwelling on it could be deadly.

Lin Siyu didn't want to give up. She felt that she shouldn't forget this matter. She wanted to fish it back out from the abyss of her memories.

The more she focused on it, the thicker the black mist around her swirled. Just when the black mist was about to envelop her completely, A’Yang waved her hand and dispersed the black mist surrounding her.

"If you dare to become a malevolent spirit, I’ll make sure your soul is scattered."

Her tone was extremely stern. Even Zhou Yang was startled by her, not to mention Lin Siyu. Lin Siyu's soul had suffered quite a shock, and she immediately regained her senses.

A'Yang was unyielding, and Lin Siyu didn't dare to provoke her, so she could only keep signaling Zhou Yang with her eyes.

Zhou Yang pursed her lips and then crouched in the corner like a quail.

A'Yang turned and returned to her room, leaving Zhou Yang and Lin Siyu staring at each other.

Unlike Zhou Yang, Lin Siyu followed A'Yang because there was something about A'Yang that attracted her.

Although no one guided her, Lin Siyu still understood some things as a ghost. If she could cultivate by A'Yang's side, she would undoubtedly make rapid progress.

In the future, she might achieve results and even secure a position in the underworld. Thinking of things in this way, her attitude toward Zhou Yang became even more eager.

Unfortunately, Zhou Yang was a bit clueless. She did not cease her clueless questions.

"Did she just say her name is A'Yang? That's too much of a coincidence. Does she happen to share your last name?"

Zhou Yang shook her head. "Immortals often have no names or surnames. Isn't that normal?"

Lin Siyu didn't say anything, but she felt that something was not quite right. She stopped chatting with Zhou Yang and wandered around Xue's villa on her own.

Apart from A'Yang's room, she explored every other room and even tried on Xue Yuan's clothes.

"It’s such a pity. I've only seen clothes like this in my childhood. I haven't had them since I grew up," Lin Siyu looked enviously at the clothes and casually threw them back, realizing they weren't hers after all.

Zhou Yang didn't dare to disturb A'Yang and followed Lin Siyu, occasionally glancing at Xue Yuan's clothes with envy.

"What are you envious of? These should have been yours, but they've been taken away for so many years."

"It's been so long. It's not easy to reclaim something like this. Eighteen years of family bonds aren't so easily severed."

Lin Siyu remained silent, and she watched A'Yang.

"Since I'm already dead, I won't consider all of that anymore. I've thought about it. Even if I hadn't died, and I could safely return to this home, would they let me go?" Zhou Yang recalled the scene from the first day she arrived here and couldn't help but sigh.

It was too difficult. It truly was. It was hard when she was still alive, and it was still tough as a wandering ghost.

The two ghosts continued talking until they realized that A'Yang was standing at the door of Xue Yuan's room.

"Come out."

"What for?" Lin Siyu was puzzled as she stared at A'Yang. It wasn't even daylight yet, so why did they need to go outside?

When A'Yang called them, Zhou Yang had already floated over voluntarily.

Seeing that A'Yang was about to take them outside, she couldn't help but feel anxious. "Immortal, where are we going?"

A'Yang didn't say anything but simply pushed open the door and walked out.

Xue's villa was some distance from her destination, and A’Yang couldn't be bothered to walk. With a single turn, they arrived at the abandoned building where Lin Siyu had died.

Seeing the familiar abandoned building, Lin Siyu felt like she was reliving everything again. There was a voice in her head that constantly echoed, "Revenge. You must seek revenge!"

A hand covered her eyes, blocking out the disturbing images that formed as recalled the past. "Don't think about those things. They're not related to you. Keep a calm mindset."

Perhaps her voice was too comforting, but the scenes that had tormented her day and night actually disappeared.

"Why are we here?" Even though she couldn't see those images anymore, Lin Siyu still didn't like this place.

"To find something," A'Yang responded as she looked at the pitch-black building. In the moonlight, the building resembled a monstrous mouth waiting for them to approach, biding its time to swallow them whole.

With that, A'Yang entered the building.

"Don't…" Lin Siyu wanted to stop A'Yang but saw that she had already gone inside. Zhou Yang tagged along.

Lin Siyu looked around and reluctantly followed suit.

A'Yang, just like last time, circled the building but this time stopped in a corner.

The wall's plaster had peeled off, and with a gentle touch, dust drifted down from the hanging plaster.

On the ground lay a rusty iron rod. A'Yang picked it up casually and started chiseling into the wall.

After a considerable effort, A’Yang tossed the iron rod aside and reached inside to retrieve something.

Lin Siyu leaned over to take a look. It seemed to be half of a bronze coin.

"Who buried this thing in the wall?"

"Why is there only half of it? Where's the other half?" Zhou Yang also came closer.

As A’Yang flipped her wrist, revealing the words on the back of the bronze coin, Zhou Yang and Lin Siyu momentarily lost their composure. There was a flash of red in their eyes, and their expressions became vacant. Their feet even left the ground, and they drifted toward a certain direction.

A’Yang furrowed her brow and intercepted them, casting a barrier around them.

"What happened to me just now?" Zhou Yang held her forehead. She felt like her actions were beyond her control as if something was irresistibly attracting her.

A’Yang didn't speak but instead filled the abandoned building with protective barriers.

"This is the entrance to the ghost realm," she said, spreading her palm. "This is the seal that locks the gate to the ghost realm. If I'm not mistaken, the other half of the bronze coin is in there."

"Is this a token?" Zhou Yang asked curiously as this was how things usually went in TV dramas, with both worlds having a part of the token to ensure they don't intercept and bring harm to each other.

A’Yang shook her head. This wasn't just any token; it was used to suppress the entire ghost realm. However, the person who set up this array had quite the nerve to place the other half of the bronze coin inside the ghost realm.

"If you take it out now, will there be consequences?" Lin Siyu asked hesitantly.

"Yes."

"Then why did you take it out?" Lin Siyu stared at A’Yang in disbelief and pointed her trembling finger behind A’Yang, murmuring, "You, behind you…"

A’Yang didn't turn around but reached behind her and grabbed the ghostly hand. With a firm grip, she crushed it.

A piercing scream echoed, and Zhou Yang and Lin Siyu instinctively covered their ears, their faces contorted in pain.

Soon, the sound disappeared, along with A’Yang.

"Immortal!" Zhou Yang didn't hesitate and rushed toward the black vortex on the wall. With quick thinking, Lin Siyu grabbed her.

"What are you doing? Are you trying to get yourself killed?"

"Immortal is inside."

"You've already called her an immortal, and now, you're afraid of a few evil spirits?" Lin Siyu retorted with a lack of confidence. Since it was the ghost realm, it probably wasn't just a few evil spirits. It was practically their headquarters.

With that thought, she couldn't help but feel worried.

As the sun rose higher, and there was still no sign of A’Yang emerging from the portal that had engulfed her, Zhou Yang got up and headed outside.

"Where are you going?"

"I'm going to look for someone to save her."

"Don't be ridiculous. Who can save her? Even if you find someone, who can see you?"

"But…"

"But what?" A voice came from behind them. They looked in the direction of the voice, and A’Yang was standing there, holding something in her hand.
