True Daughter 6

The True Daughter Isn't Human - Chapter 6

The hospital room fell into a profound silence. Even the sound of their breathing could be heard clearly. Suddenly, A’Yang walked over to Lin Jiao and asked, "What are you afraid of? Take a closer look. Who is she?"

Trembling, Lin Jiao froze and raised her head to take a glance at the female ghost. In that brief moment when their eyes met, a hidden secret in her heart was exposed.

"It's… it's you…"

She seemed to have caught sight of faint movement of the female ghost’s ghastly mouth.

"It's you. It's really you."

"This is a debt, and it's time for you to repay it," A’Yang muttered in a voice only they could hear.

As soon as she finished speaking, the female ghost that had been perched on Xue Yuan's shoulder appeared in front of Lin Jiao in the blink of an eye. Her horrifying face was almost pressed against Lin Jiao's, and her chilling voice echoed in her ears. "I want your life."

Terrified, Lin Jiao fell off the bed. She looked at the approaching female ghost in utter fear as she lay half-paralyzed on the ground. "It wasn't me. It wasn't me who harmed you. It was her. It was Xue Yuan. It was her idea. I just wanted to scare you. I really didn't expect them to kill you."

Upon hearing her words, Xue Yuan quickly retreated two steps, but she caught a glimpse of A’Yang. There was a smile of mockery on A’Yang's lips as if she was taunting her.

"Believe me… Please believe me. It was really Xue Yuan's idea, and Pan Cheng was involved

too. She bought the sedatives. Spare me. Don't kill me. I don't want to die, please. Please…"

Lin Jiao begged and pleaded for her life, hoping the female ghost would spare her.

The female ghost did hesitate for a moment and then turned to A’Yang. Seeing that A’Yang had no intention of intervening, the female ghost finally acted and reached out towards Lin Jiao.

Zhou Yang opened her mouth as if to say something but ultimately remained silent. She was simply reaping what she had sown.

The female ghost didn't take Lin Jiao's life but left a trace of ghostly energy on her. Sometimes, death couldn't resolve a problem; living in misery was the harshest punishment.

Next in line was Xue Yuan. However, just as the female ghost lunged at her, Meng Ji pushed the door open and walked in, wielding a force that sent the female ghost flying.

Zhou Yang clutched her chest. Her face that was drained of color was growing even paler, and her body seemed even more translucent. "I… I feel uncomfortable."

"Come behind me."

Zhou Yang moved behind A’Yang obediently and immediately felt better once she did so.

The atmosphere in the room grew heavier, and Meng Ji must have just encountered that person. He knew that person.

"Xue Yuan, are you okay?" When he saw Xue Yuan sitting on the floor looking bewildered and lost, Meng Ji felt a deep sense of pity. He hurried over to help her up.

"I… I'm fine." Xue Yuan leaned against Meng Ji, her hands pressed against her chest. Everything that had just happened felt surreal, but she had seen it all.

She had seen the ghost of Lin Siyu.

Lin Siyu was a relative's daughter from Lin Jiao's father's side of the family tree. Her parents had passed away, and she had been taken in by Lin Jiao's father. Not long after bringing her back, they had taken her to an event in their circle, and Lin Siyu awkwardly tried to please everyone. Naturally, she became the target of endless ridicule.

They had even played tricks on her, and the idea had been put forward by Xue Yuan. They had sneaked a sedative in her drink and then abandoned her in an abandoned building, with a few people pretending to be ghosts to scare her.

When they left, Lin Siyu was still fine. However, the next day, Lin Siyu fell

from a building and died on the spot.

They hadn't meant for anything to happen to her. All they wanted to scare her. They decided to let the incident pass, insisting that Lin Siyu had run out on her own and that they had nothing to do with it.

However, the ghost of Lin Siyu appeared before her eyes.

She had marked them as the targets of her vengeance.

Perhaps noticing that Lin Siyu's ghost was afraid of Meng Ji due to what had happened earlier, Xue Yuan instinctively tightened her grip on Meng Ji's hand.

Because of Meng Ji's aura, Lin Siyu didn't dare to approach Xue Yuan.

She turned to look at A’ Yang, seemingly seeking her help.

A’Yang ignored her gaze and turned to Meng Ji. Her aura had become stronger than before, indicating that Meng Ji and that person were not merely acquaintances. They likely knew each other well.

Meng Ji, likely noticing A’ Yang's gaze, frowned and gave her a disapproving look. He was growing even more disgusted with this woman who didn't know her place.

"Ah Ji, there's a ghost," Xue Yuan whispered softly, bringing Meng Ji's focus back.

Meng Ji held onto Xue Yuan's hand and reassured her, "It's okay. Don't be afraid."

He couldn't see ghosts and didn't even believe in their existence. If he had to say something, he would rather believe that Zhou Yang was just playing tricks.

Unable to reach her target, Lin Siyu felt extremely resentful but also helpless. Meng

Ji's presence made her feel uncomfortable, so she fled through the window.

The room's eerie coldness disappeared instantly. Mother Lin trembled and asked with a quivering voice, "Is the ghost gone?"

No one answered, but she could already guess. Unable to contain her grief, she threw herself onto Lin Jiao and wept bitterly.

Father Lin wore a look of despair as well. Lin Siyu was his brother's daughter, and there were some things he couldn't bring himself to confess. After his brother's passing, he had taken her into their home out of pity. Little did he know that one day, his own daughter would face retribution.

On the bed, Lin Jiao gazed at the ceiling with despair in her eyes. Then, as if recalling something, she turned her head and fixed her gaze on Xue Yuan, who was now behind Meng Ji. She raised her head forcefully and uttered word by word, "You won’t have a good death."

Xue Yuan looked at Lin Jiao with tearful eyes, wanting to explain, but Meng Ji moved to shield her behind him.

"Let's go," he said, pulling Xue Yuan away.

Pan Cheng glanced around nervously and decided not to stay either. She followed them out.

Left in the room were Xue Jianping and Wu Meijun, who exchanged glances before leaving as well.

In the hospital room, only the three members of the Lin family remained. A’Yang touched her earlobe, turned, and left.

"They've gone too far. When something happens, it affects the whole family, but now, they've all left," Zhou Yang fumed, almost revealing her fiery state of anger.

She saw Lin Siyu’s fate and felt a sense of sorrow. Just because she couldn't fit into their so-called social circle, they mocked and played tricks on her? To the point where she ended up a vengeful spirit?

If it weren't for A’ Yang saving her, would her fate have been the same as Lin Siyu's?

A sense of powerlessness welled up inside her. She looked at A’ Yang's retreating figure and felt fortunate. She had been lucky, having a deity save her.

A deity who shared her name, no less.

"Let's wander around a bit." A’ Yang glanced around and noticed something that might be useful.

"Aren't you angry at all about how they treated you?" Zhou Yang asked cautiously.

"Why should I be angry? They have nothing to do with me. The one who should be angry is you."

"But, I'm not angry anymore. I'm not close to them either." Zhou Yang floated up and continued, "Besides, they claim to recognize me but also spread malicious rumors that I'm a child born out of wedlock. I've never seen anyone so shameless."

A’ Yang struck her coldly. "They’re your close blood relatives."

"Ugh, if I had known, I wouldn't have come with them."

"But, you still have to go to college, right? Sooner or later, you'll have to face them."

Zhou Yang sighed heavily, shook her head, and tried to change the topic. "Stop talking about it. Just… stop.”

A chilly breeze swept by, and Lin Siyu, who had left earlier, returned. Zhou Yang was startled and immediately hid behind A’Yang.

"Oh my, a ghost… A ghost, a ghost is here!"

"But aren't you a ghost too?"

"Yeah, but… but she looks so scary."

"Your appearance isn't much better than hers."

"Why do you keep belittling me?"

A’Yang refused to answer her question and turned to look at Lin Siyu. "Do you need something?"

Lin Siyu stared at A’Yang and spoke hesitantly, "Please… help me."

A’Yang chuckled. "Help you? What's in it for me?"

"Yeah, what's in it for her?" Zhou Yang chimed in, acting like a bootlicker.

Lin Siyu remained silent and didn't respond. A’Yang passed by her without a second glance.

Surprisingly, after a while, Lin Siyu followed them quietly, still not saying a word and trailing behind them.

A’Yang continued to walk ahead without looking back.

However, the path she took wasn't the one they had used to arrive.

"Isn't this the way back to Xue's house?" Zhou Yang looked around and realized it wasn't the same route.

When A’Yang used to go to the hospital, she would walk there on her own two legs, moving slowly and uncomfortably the entire way.

Nowshe was doing the same—walking slowly and leisurely, without a care in the world.

Not long after, Zhou Yang began to feel uneasy.

"Isn't this…" She paused and discreetly glanced at Lin Siyu behind them. Wasn't this the place where she had an accident?

A’Yang headed straight to the spot where Lin Siyu had her incident, and Lin Siyu stopped in her tracks, too afraid to move forward.

A’Yang only stopped when she reached the top floor.

Compared to the nearby skyscrapers, this building was not very tall.

A’Yang felt that jumping from here wouldn't cause much harm.

Zhou Yang walked nervously toward her. "Don't… don't jump. It's six floors high."

"Is this where your incident happened?" A’Yang ignored her words, looking toward Lin Siyu who was standing at the entrance of the alley. Although she was far away, A’ Yang's voice sounded as if it was right next to her ear.

"Um." Lin Siyu hesitated for a moment and then nodded in agreement.

"Come up."

Lin Siyu shook her head, unwilling to go up. That day, she had been frightened by the prank Lin Jiao and the others played on her. In her panic, she had tried to hide, but who would have thought that while she was trying to, she stepped on thin air and fell down, hitting her head and bleeding profusely. She died on the spot.

She resented them. She despised the so-called prank that Lin Jiao and the others had pulled on her, scaring her thoughtlessly. Who would have imagined that she would end up dead as if her life meant nothing? She had been dead for so long, but in their eyes, she got what she deserved.

She refused to accept it. Absolutely refused!

Seeing Lin Siyu's soul being enveloped in darkness, A’Yang frowned and reached out

to pull her over.

Whether it was due to her fear of dying again or something else, Lin Siyu's eyes turned red, and she seemed on the verge of losing control. Hostility radiated from her entire being.

Zhou Yang was already prepared to grab A’Yang and make a run for it, but unexpectedly, A’Yang reached back and held her in place, preventing her from moving.

"Be quiet." A’Yang spoke somewhat impatiently.

Lin Siyu instantly became timid, feeling an inexplicable fear, just like the aura she had sensed from the man in the hospital room. Both gave her a sense of spiritual oppression.

She couldn't articulate this feeling, but she sensed that this woman in front of her was not to be messed with. Seeing Lin Siyu's reaction, Zhou Yang couldn't help but burst into laughter.

Lin Siyu glared at her in annoyance, feeling a bit aggrieved. They were both spirits; how was it that this person before her was doing so well, while she was in such a miserable state?

Zhou Yang raised her eyebrows smugly at Lin Siyu and then floated behind A’Yang as she stuck her tongue out at her.
