The True Daughter Isn't Human - Chapter 7

On the side, A’Yang seemed as if she hadn’t noticed their little actions while she carefully inspected the surrounding environment. Seeing no results, she felt somewhat disappointed.

These were all archaic buildings that were supposed to be demolished. The people who originally lived here had moved away, but the demolition stopped halfway abruptly for unknown reasons. It had been abandoned for several years and had yet to be taken down.

A’Yang was unwilling to give up. She went downstairs again, meticulously inspecting this side. She always felt that something was amiss, but she couldn’t quite remember what it was.

Seeing that evening was approaching, Zhou Yang floated over and said, “A’Yang, let’s take a break.”

Looking at her obsequious appearance, Lin Siyu felt extremely disdainful. However, when facing A’Yang, she couldn’t help but smile to please her. After all, in her eyes, A’Yang could decide her life and death.

Even though she was already dead, she didn’t want to be beaten to a pulp again. At least for now, following A’Yang was quite safe.

Since she couldn’t figure out what was wrong, A’Yang decided to return. There was no need to torment herself.

She walked back to the Xue family’s house. When she arrived, the gate was shut tightly. A’Yang hesitated for a moment and then reached out to ring the doorbell.

Zhou Yang could not resist to float in to take a look. Angrily, she drifted back out and complained, “They’re all inside the house, but they won’t come out to open the gate.”

Just as she finished speaking, there was a loud “bang.” A’Yang broke the lock of the gate with her hand without hesitation. When the gate opened, the people inside the residence were startled, and when they turned their heads, they saw A’Yang stepping in.

“You… Did you just break the gate?” Xue Cheng was surprised, looking at A’Yang with a curious gaze as if trying to figure out how she had managed to break the gate.

The gate couldn’t have been of such poor quality, right?

A’Yang didn’t even spare them a glance and went straight to her room.

As she pushed open the door, Xue Jianping stopped her and spoke in an unfriendly tone, “We’ve already talked about it. Nobody wanted this sort of mistake to happen. I know you’re angry, but you shouldn’t be so uncivilized.”

A’Yang raised an eyebrow, turned to look at him, and forced a strained smile. “You all keep saying I’m uncivilized. Shouldn’t you look at yourselves?”

In response to Xue Jianping’s comment, there was a sound of the door being slammed shut. He stared blankly for a moment before realizing that she meant that she had inherited her lack of manners from them.

Wu Meijun obviously understood as well. She muttered, “What does she mean by that? She really doesn’t have…” She swallowed the rest of her words.

“Mom, Dad, don’t be angry. I don’t think she meant it.”

“Yuanyuan, you’re still defending her at this point? It’s not unintentional. I think she did it on purpose. Why else would she come back so late?”

Hu Ma glanced at the broken gate and then at the people sitting in the living room, deciding at the last minute not to say what was on the tip of her tongue.

Not only did the new young lady lack a car and money, but she also walked to the hospital in the morning. She probably walked home too.

“This gate…”

Only then did everyone react and look at the front gate, which was completely shattered where the lock was.

Xue Cheng didn’t believe it. He went forward to inspect and pulled on the lock, which came off in his hand, leaving a pile of chipped wood on the ground.

The others’ expressions changed. Xue Yuan, her face pale, asked, “Sister, did she break it with her bare hands?”

“It looks like it,” Hu Ma replied.

Xue Jianping’s immediate reaction was disbelief; it couldn’t be true. How could she have broken the gate to this state with her bare hands?

Just as they were discussing, they suddenly felt a significant drop in temperature in the living room, causing them to shiver.

How could it be cold in the middle of summer?

“Is the air conditioning broken?” Wu Meijun felt it too and looked in the direction of the air conditioner, but she didn’t expect Xue Yuan to scream out of the blue.

“Ghost! There’s a ghost!”

Xue Yuan lay on the sofa, terrified, as she pointed with trembling fingers ahead of her.

She had just seen a ghost, or more precisely, she had seen the ghostly apparition of Lin Siyu.

“What’s wrong?”

“Brother, there’s a ghost! Lin Siyu, she’s right next to you.”

Xue Cheng jumped away in fear and then realized, “How can there be a ghost in the house? You must be mistaken, Sister.”

Xue Yuan shook her head, her face drained of color. She pointed her trembling finger behind Xue Cheng. She could see it. Lin Siyu’s ghostly figure, with a smile on her face, had placed her hand on her brother’s shoulder.

“No, no,” Xue Yuan muttered, shaking her head desperately.

She saw Lin Siyu’s lips moving clearly that mouthed, “Give me back my life.”

“It wasn’t me, really. It wasn’t me.” Xue Yuan crouched on the ground, holding her head. When Lin Siyu was brought back by Lin’s father, Lin Jiao was unhappy with her. They had given her the idea to play a prank on Lin Siyu. Their original plan was to scare her by leaving her at the abandoned building. They had no intention of causing harm, but who could have predicted that Lin Siyu would die?

It was all an accident, so why did she keep haunting them like this?

Apart from turning that building into a haunted place, this incident hadn’t affected much else, but now, Lin Siyu’s ghost was in her house, right in front of her eyes. Xue Yuan felt like her head was spinning, but when she thought of her brother, she managed not to faint.

“Yuanyuan, what’s wrong?” Xue Cheng tried to approach Xue Yuan but felt an immense weight on his shoulders as if someone was on them.

“Ah, don’t come over. Stay away.” Seeing Xue Cheng approaching together with Lin Siyu, Xue Yuan was filled with panic. She fell to the carpet but behind her was a coffee table, and she had no way to retreat.

Upon noticing how scared Xue Yuan was of her, Xue Cheng stopped moving forward.

Wu Meijun went over to help Xue Yuan up, and the two of them sat on the sofa, crying with their heads in their hands.

“Is it really her?” Xue Jianping still couldn’t believe it, but he also felt that his daughter wouldn’t lie to him.

With a pale face, Xue Yuan nodded. Tears welled up in her eyes, and she looked particularly pitiful.

“Yes, it’s Lin Siyu.”

“How did she end up in our house?” Xue Jianping couldn’t understand. Shouldn’t she have gone to the Lin family if anywhere?

Then, he remembered what had happened in the hospital room before.

“Yuanyuan, tell me honestly. Did you have anything to do with Lin Siyu’s death?”

Xue Yuan shook her head and explained what had happened that day, “No, we just wanted to scare her at first. We never thought she would die.”

Lin Siyu’s ghostly figure that was perched on Xue Cheng’s shoulder seemed to mock her. Xue Yuan turned her face away and whispered, “She’s lying on my brother’s shoulder now.”

The faces of the people in the room changed. Even Xue Cheng vigorously patted his shoulder as if trying to shake the female ghost off. Lin Siyu not only remained firm but also held on tighter.

Seeing that Xue Yuan was in distress, Xue Cheng was terrified. Having a female ghost on his shoulder sent chills to his bones even just thinking about it. He considered moving closer to his parents, but he was stopped.

“Archeng, go back to your room for now. I’ll call a spiritual master to come and take a look.” Xue Jianping didn’t want to rush his son, but he couldn’t allow the female ghost to remain in their house.

“Alright.” Although Xue Cheng was reluctant, he went back to his room with a pale face.

Zhou Yang leaned on the staircase as she watched, unable to hold back her laughter.

Just before Xue Cheng entered the room, Lin Siyu turned her head and gave her a glance, her mouth stretched wide as if responding to Zhou Yang’s laughter.

“Gosh, let me tell you.” Zhou Yang couldn’t resist going into the room to share this joke with A’Yang. She emphasized the expressions on the faces of the Xue family members.

A’Yang, apathetic, looked at the computer screen in front of her that was playing a popular TV series.

“You watch TV too?” Zhou Yang floated over and even explained the plot to A’Yang, but she still had no expression.

“Is it not good?” she asked cautiously.

“Well.” A’Yang carefully chose her words and pointed at the leading actress on the screen. “Does she have some sort of mental issue?”

Zhou Yang looked at the screen where the leading actress was running frantically in the pouring rain, falling to the ground, pounding the road, and screaming, “Why, why?”

“This…” Zhou Yang couldn’t understand either. The leading actress was quite alluring, but the portrayal didn’t leave much to be desired.

Fortunately, A’Yang wasn’t fixated on this issue.

“The Xue family is trying to find a spiritual master to exorcise Lin Siyu’s ghost from Xue Cheng. Immortal, do you think they’ll drive Lin Siyu away?” In truth, Zhou Yang thought Lin Siyu was quite nice, especially when she saw her perched on Xue Cheng’s shoulder. She had felt content.

“It depends on the type of person they find.” A’Yang didn’t really care. She had noticed that there were hardly any places in this area suitable for cultivation, but the heavens were fair; at least, if you did good deeds, you’d receive merit in return.

As for the Xue family’s plans to exorcise Lin Siyu, A’Yang had only heard about it in passing, and she didn’t take it seriously.

Moreover, the Xue family had no intention of informing her about their plans.

A’Yang was idle and was bored out of her mind. Lin Siyu would come through the wall to the Xue family’s house when everyone was asleep, and the two of them would nest in the room, watching TV and making fun of the characters’ foolish actions.

Outside, there was a commotion, and Zhou Yang curiously floated out to take a look. Anxiously, she returned to tell A’Yang, “What should we do? They’ve really brought a spiritual master. Will Lin Siyu be driven away?”

Lin Siyu opened her mouth but didn’t make a sound. She simply pointed at herself and then at Zhou Yang, indicating that it wasn’t just her who was a ghost; both of them would be driven away.

A’Yang ignored them, her gaze fixed on the computer. The leading actress was about to explain things to the leading actor, but after a momentary wait, she was met with another misunderstanding. The leading actress saw the second female lead openly confessing her feelings to the leading actor. Then, she immediately turned and ran away.

Well, more misunderstandings to come.

When she turned back, she saw the two ghosts in the room staring at her.

“What are you looking at?”

“Look outside.” Zhou Yang pointed at the door. “A spiritual master who can exorcise ghosts has arrived. Will he chase us away?” Thinking about being exorcised, she felt quite melancholic.

Especially when compared to Lin Siyu, she thought that being a lonely wandering spirit out in the wild might be much worse. It seemed better to stay by her god’s side.

A’Yang raised an eyebrow, stood up, and walked out. As soon as she opened the door, a strong smell of incense greeted her, and the entire living room was filled with thick smoke. Vaguely, she could see several figures.
