How to Raise a Baby in an Apocalypse - Chapter 23 - You’ve Killed Someone

As she watched the zombie drawing perilously close to planting a gruesome kiss on her face, An Ran, in her desperate state, wildly swung her blade towards the zombie’s head. She struck it with force, then deftly pried the blade to extract a small, shiny object from the zombie’s brain. This minuscule item tumbled onto the floor of the hospital room, emitting a crisp “ding” as it landed.

What was it? An Ran currently had no inclination to investigate. After delivering a fatal blow to the zombie’s head, she loosened her grip, barely managing to maintain her balance. An Ran stood on the awning, gazing at the now lifeless limp body hanging from the window ledge. It had transformed into an actual corpse.

“You’ve killed someone, you’ve killed someone! You’re a murderer!”

Chen Jiao, crouched in the opposite corner of the awning, clutched her head in terror and unease as she looked at An Ran. An Ran’s heart was pounding uncontrollably, as if it could leap out of her chest at any moment. She panted heavily, her gaze fixed on the deceased zombie, experiencing a peculiar sensation in her psyche, like something extraordinary had just sprung from the depths of her heart.

She had a feeling, as if to say, “Ah, so I can actually go this far!”

Meanwhile, Chen Jiao continued to cry, and her sobs kept the zombies outside the window lingering, with more of them amassing.

An Ran impatiently kicked Chen Jiao and brandished the same blade she had used to kill the zombie. She threatened, “Hurry up and get downstairs. Stop with this nonsense.”

“I can’t go down, I can’t.”

Chen Jiao, squatting on the awning, pointed to the ground below the third floor. Even though the night sky was dark, there was still light coming from the doctor’s office on the first-floor. Through the faint glow, An Ran could vaguely discern that the floor below them was now surrounded by numerous zombies.

There were still many zombies nearby, shuffling towards them in small groups. In the distance, they couldn’t discern how many there were, but further than that, would the situation remain the same?

Would there be zombies too?

An Ran once again felt helpless, and she despondently sat on the awning outside the third-floor wall. Above her were the lifeless hands of the dead zombie, hanging down from the ledge. She gazed into the distant, pitch-black horizon, beginning to doubt the possibility of rescue. Besides Chen Jiao, who resented her to the core, it felt like there was no one else left in this world.

“Is anyone there? Are there any survivors? Help!!!”

Suddenly, An Ran screamed into the night sky, and her voice echoed far, far away, reaching a point where there was a faint echo. Yet, the only response to her cry were the monsters that were rapidly converging on her location.

Chen Jiao, who was next to her, had tears streaming down her face as she watched An Ran with a mixture of fear and resentment, as if An Ran wss the one responsible for their current predicament.

However, An Ran was the one holding a weapon, and Chen Jiao had been threatened by her before, so she dared not openly display her anger.

A hot tear fell onto the back of An Ran’s hand, stinging her skin painfully. She hissed and looked at her slightly cracked hand, seeing her own tears being quickly absorbed into her skin. She didn’t pay it much mind and instead rose to her feet and leaned against the third-floor windowsill. Through the body of the dead zombie, she discreetly observed the scene inside the hospital room.

Chen Jiao, at her feet, continued to cry, and An Ran kicked her again. She scowled, “Stop crying. If you keep crying, these zombies will not leave. As long as you stop crying, they will disperse, I’m sure of it!”
