How to Raise a Baby in an Apocalypse - Chapter 5 - Must Apply For Transfer To Another Hospital

“Uhm, are you alright?”

An Ran held herself up and sat up. The nurse’s eyes slowly regained their focus as she concentrated her attention on An Ran’s neck. She staggered a bit before showing signs of hesitation and struggle. After that, she promptly hung the drip bag she brought onto the drip stand next to An Ran’s bed, as if she had no more reaction whatsoever.

And then, the nurse did the most bizarre thing next. She did not say a word, nor did she administer the IV drip to An Ran. All she did was slowly and gradually turn around like a slow motion silent movie before pulling open one portion of the curtains and leisurely wobbling out.

This nurse must have caught some serious illness!

An Ran sat on her bed and frowned. She felt a bit uncomfortable, as if something felt wrong. Why did no doctor come forward to treat this nurse when she had unmistakably caught a serious illness? Why did they force her to work while she was still sick? What if she transmitted her illness to the newborn babies, what would they do then?

With these thoughts in her head, An Ran decided firstmost that she would get up from the bed to check the content of the drip bag the nurse had just hung on the stand. That nurse should not haphazardly administer drip bags without caution. How could An Ran safely breastfeed her daughter once she comes out from the neonatal unit?

An Ran got up from her bed with some struggle, and in the process of getting up, she pulled on her lateral episiotomy wound, which caused her to grimace in pain. She then bent down and held onto the headboard, took a few deep breaths before finally standing upright to grab the drip bag from the stand and check on its content.

What kind of medication is this?

An Ran wasn’t able to tell clearly because the bag was covered by some kind of unknown fluid, like the yellow phlegm that a patient had coughed out. When the fluid got smeared onto An Ran’s hand, she quickly threw the bag into the trash and turned around to wash her hands in the toilet.

For someone like An Ran, who had just given birth less than 10 hours ago, this was especially painful for her. Those who had never had episiotomy or had given birth before would never understand the pain. The pressure inside her abdominal cavity was greatly reduced after she had given birth. When An Ran stood up, she felt like her organs had dropped due to the gravity.

She couldn’t take the pain anymore, so she tried to bend down and carry her stomach with her hands. It felt a little better yet it hurt like hell, even the notion of breathing was something she had to constantly worry about.

Even though the distance from the bed to the toilet would only take a few steps, An Ran felt like it was a long journey. She finally made it to the toilet, yet as she opened the tap to wash off the yellow phlegm on her hand, the water gradually turned yellow and eventually to a darker tone the more she continued to wash.

An Ran stood by the basin and stared at the water in disbelief as the water increasingly turned black. With her head lowered, the anger in her heart began to rise to a boiling point.

Despite the hospital not being the most expensive, the fees were not exactly cheap either. During An Ran’s pregnancy, she compared the prices between the hospitals in Xiangcheng before ending up choosing this hospital in Xing District. The reason she chose this hospital was because the technology used in the Gynecology and Obstetrics department was considered the best in Xiangcheng.

Having the most effective anesthetization would serve a purpose, while having a pessimistic environment and a group of personnel with a negative attitude could lower the overall standard of this hospital.

She decided to inform the doctor that she would apply to transfer to another hospital. With her mind thinking about her daughter in the neonatal unit, An Ran felt that she would not be able to take care of her within the hospital in such an environment, and with that nurse’s competence as well.

She must apply for a transfer to another hospital!
